Didn't want to highjack tigerbait1970's thread, but it got me thinking about small outboards and that reminded me of the first boat I remember my Dad having. It was probably 45, maybe close to 50 years ago and he had a used 12'-14' aluminum bateau that had a Wizard Super 10 on it. It was a 2 stroke that was sold by Western Auto back in the day. It had a lever on the front that had a "F" (forward) on one side and an "R" (reverse) on the other. It was a pull rope start that you cranked in gear, either F or R and you better be hanging on! It would outrun my Uncle's Merc 10 and that pissed him off. We caught tons of fish out of that boat. Something to be said for those simpler times.

What's the oldest outboard you remember?

I'm young, so like the mid 80's Merc 50 my dad had on a 16' Tracker when I was still fishing with a Snoopy pole. Some of those old outboards are cool though, I see some pop up on some of the facebook market places from time to time and I'm always tempted to grab them up even though I don't have a use for them.

Mr.CoachKlien is doing a build on a Super Skeeter and has a beautiful vintage Mercury that he's putting on it.

Got a 1958 Sea King 5hp. Even have the owners manual that came with it. It was my FIL's that he bought new back in the day. Last time I had ran it, it still ran like a clock.

I have a 58 Johnson in mint condition, wonder what it's worth? I'll send some pictures tomorrow as soon as I get home.

I had an 18 HP Johnson Sea Horse on a narrow 14' flat bottom It was a 1957 model, and was still running like a champ in the 90s( had to put new packing around the mixture adjustment control weekly though). The swivel got a crack in it though, and I didn't realize it. I put in one day at a crowded boat ramp. I pulled the rope and it started up and was purring like a kitten. I let it warm up just a little and drifted over to the deep water.
I put it in gear and gassed it,just to show off. The swivel broke and the whole motor came off the back, pulling gas tank and me with it, I tried to get off the gas and pull it back up,but I wasn't quick enough.I just had to let go.
The people at the boat ramp were laughing their asses off.
I never even bothered to get that motor back up, I knew it was ruined.
Check your swivel now and then

I still have my grandpaws wizard super 10 I have it in a flower bed as a yard ornament. Been thinking about cleaning it up and bringing it inside as it has faded some in the sun. If that motor could talk I bet it could tell some stories

My brother built a wooden boat for the TN River here in Alabama. He has two of the Evinrudes pictured here. He's a mechanical engineer and keeps it running buying old inventory of new parts from people online. Thing runs like a top and looks sharp.

Looks like this one:

Had one just like this back in the early 90's which I bought from an old guy.

I ended up selling it after a couple years because I couldn't find parts (pre-internet days).
