From what I understand. Eco boost on paper looks good.

But in practicality it is a whole new animal and not really time-tested/tuned.

As in;, it introduces hundreds of more problems than 5.0. 5 is a known quantity and kinks were hammered out.

Comparison
Eco boost =p365 with striker drag…..shiny new object that baws still want anyway.
5.0 =gen3 g19.

I rent mostly 1500 trucks and the 3.5 ecoboost is a nice truck. I don't tow or haul much, so I have no idea how it is in heavy duty situations. But on the road the 3.5 ecoboost drives nicer than the 5.0 when it comes to steering and handling.

Either way I'd take a Ram 5.7 over either.

5.3 was eye opening.

The 5.3 is anemic. I don't even know how the 4.8 ever towed anything!

Ford and Ram do well with 5.0 and 5.7 motors, I don't know why chevy needed the 6.0 and now 6.2 to make a decent truck motor.

Anemic is too harsh a description for the 5.3. It’s a fine motor and tows plenty enough for a half ton truck. It’s just not fun and is a bit less peppy than the Ram/Ford V8s.

The 4.8 was sufficient too for light towing and normal driving. Esp in the single can configuration. It didn’t have a ton of torque but it had enough. I had a 1999 single cab Silverado with the 4.8 and that truck was peppy responsive.

On paper the ecoboost is certainly impressive and I’ve never owned one, but when I test drove the 3.5 recently it wasn’t as blazing fast as I thought it’d be. Faster than the 5.3 sure, but didn’t blow me away like I expected.

I have a 3.5 and came from a 5.3.

3.5 won’t “butt dyno” feel like it is getting stronger much past 3k rpm. 5.3 wanted to be wound up. I wasn’t initially that impressed with the 3.5, until I learned how to use the throttle to exploit the torque and work around some of the electronic throttle/timing.

I can hands down do everything better with my 3.5 than I could with my 5.3.

GM just refuses to make the 6.2 readily available. Really wants everyone to have the 5.3. Makes me mad.

When I bought my '20 AT4 there were a lot more 6.2s than 5.3s. I wanted & got the 5.3; does everything I need it to do.

Guess it depends on the dealership. If I get an F150, Ford will put whichever engine I want into an XLT. GM makes you buy the high end for the 6.2.

As much as it pains me to say this, drive a ram 5.7 and then any other one.

Their 5.7 was 20 years ahead of its time when it was release.

Does anyone know if the Ram 5.7 feels any different than the Tundra 5.7?

No they don't; no one is putting a gun to a truck buyer's head.
