After 13 year my Minn Kota Riptide FORTREX 70lb thrust trolling motor has died

The title says it all. Needless to say I need a new trolling motor. 18’ flat bottom boat.
I’m looking for a 24volt 70lb thrust motor.
Damn trolling motors are expensive.
Any recommendations . Hand controlled , foot controlled , Ipilot?

If you have never used the fly by wire type of foot controls, I would recommend you trying before buying. I hate the experience, while others like it a lot.

What type of fishing do you do?
I originally had a hand control motor for my bay boat and never thought I would need anything else. Went with some other people and saw the possibilities of gps enabled trolling motors.
Did some research and found that the newer upgraded models are light years ahead of the old tech. But they are super expensive.
Saved my arse off and pulled the trigger on the newest Minn Kota instinct. It has really opened up more things I can do that I was never able to do before. The spot lock, drift, and cruise control are amazing.
I will say that if I only fished freshwater it would not me as much of a necessity. However. fishing in saltwater in ripping currents and wind, for me, its a game changer.

Id look for another Fortex on marketplace. Great trolling motors without all the extra gadgets to break/corroded. I just had to replace mine after I sheared a tree after it had just fallen across a curved canal

I would really like a bow mount, hand control trolling motor WITH spot lock. I just can't get to the remote control, hand or foot.

To me you can’t beat a foot control unless you have a high end one with gps steering. I bought my bass boat and it has a motor guide with a wireless controller and I thought I’d like it but I hate it. Constantly having to free my hand to steer the boat instead of casting/reeling. I do like the stay in place button though.
My old boat with a foot control was just easier. You get in a mindless smooth rhythm where you focus on fishing and your foot does the work without thinking about it

Im watching this tread because my 70 MinKota died last week too. As a coastal fisherman, one with spot lock seems to be the way to go. Especially since my boat didnt have an anchor pole.
A 70 or 80 24 volt spot lock seems like the ticket.

Get the Terrova. If you’re gonna get one get one w the bells and whistles. Ipilot and Remote are game changers. It’ll be the best 1K more u ever spend
on your boat.
