It would be primarily for deer hunting and shots no longer than 400 yards.

Get a Tikka from here and have $1000 to spend on scope

Scope- Vortex Optics Viper HS Long Range Rifle Scope, 4-16x50 would be my choice $500

Get a Tikka T3 in .25-06 or 6.5X55 with a 3-12X56 Meostar R1 (order from sportoptics). You should be in right at $1500 for a deer setup that is unbeatable.

Savage 11/111 Trophy Hunter XP .308 WIN

Comes mounted with Nikon 3-9x40 BDC reticle

$629.00

for anything inside of 300 use Remington Core-lokt PSP 150 grain and for further out step up to a Barnes TTSX 168 grain.

Save the additional $870 and take her out for an exotic/non-endemic hunt in TX.

you also have the satisfaction of buying American made.

What about the weatherby vanguard? Couple of buddies have them and they swear by them. They are around the same price as the tikka. Not knocking the tikka but I've never seen or shot one.

I've never shot a Vanguard, but have heard about accuracy issues. I can't claim either way.

Carson can correct this if it's wrong, but Tikka is the only non-custom rifle that guarantees 3 shot MOA, or send it back.

Sako is 5 shot MOA i believe.

I have a Vanguard in .257 wby mag. It's an amazing gun. It's made by Howa I think but may be wrong.

I'm not a huge deer hunter but have killed a deer out to ~ 275 yds with it. And yes, I have practiced that distance.

I gave $350 for several years ago though. Not so sure I wouldn't take a Tikka now though over it.
