Not sure yet. Not really looking for a high end reel at this time. Looking for something around the $100-125 price range. Thought about looking at the Shimano SLX. Any suggestions for that price range?

At that price range the SLX is a great choice.

I currently have 1, and a Curado K. Feel very similar in my hand. It’s been a great reel.

Also have the 13 fishing Origin TX which is a good reel at that price too if you can stand the color.

FWIW the sportsman show will have the SLX this weekend for $99 and you get a free rod.

What’s the sportsman show?

In you opinion, which has been better to you the SLX or the 13. I’ve always wondered about the 13 reels. I don’t know anybody that has one to get good feedback on it

I was looking at the same one. Do you have any prior experience with that model?

If strictly freshwater I would go with the SLX, it’s also available in more options as far as gear ratio.

The TX is aimed toward both fresh and salt, more corrosion resistant.

Both are very good at that price point.

It’s a outdoors show here in New Orleans. Coming up this weekend.

Curiosity about 13 got to me tonight in Academy. Ended up buying the Inception Sport Z reel. Prob. going to end up being a stupid move because I know there is a lot of good reels around the $150 price point (which I only paid 130 with the coupon). Just wanted a brand that I never tried.

I’ve been interested in those as well.

They do make a damn good reel and would have to think it will be one as well.

Color took a few times seeing it to get use to it but I think I could get use to it.

So far out of the box (initial reaction):
It feels very light (6.9) and feels pretty good in the palm of the hand. The handle knobs feel comfortable and the handle is wide. Comparing it to my Tatula CT, it feels slightly more comfortable. It feels smooth and I really like the beetle wing side plate. I kinda like the lime green color with the black handle, spool, tension knob. etc. I might spool it tonight with some Power Pro and try it out tomorrow if I get a chance. The only con to it so far is that the spool doesn't have any holes in it (Waffle pattern or something similar).

My buddy had a spypoint last year. It took a little while to get it working because reception was poor at his lease. For $100 I think it is worth a shot to try it out. May be flushing $100 down the toilet but usually Academy is good about returning things especially if it doesn’t work.

I picked up 2 of the $100 Spypoints yesterday. Very easy to set up. Like someone said, it takes decent pics but the field of view is pretty narrow. I set them up in my living room last night and they took pics every time the dog got up. Sometimes there is a 5-10 lag time between picture and receiving it on my phone. Also not all of the pictures were sent.

We’re planning on going hog hunting tonight and putting them at feeders close to the camp. When the hogs show up we’re gonna sneak up and blast em. That’s the plan anyway.

Here’s why I love Academy. We went last night to get the kids some school clothes, shoes, backpacks, etc. Spent over $250. The girl at the register checked us out in 3 separate transactions and we got $50 off.

Well, somehow managed to lose my life jacket yesterday. May as well go to Academy and spend more money.
