Alright, as the official shotgun of the OB, I feel like this is where I should come with mechanical issues with my Beretta A300 Outlander.

On my recent pheasant trip in SD, my A300 had some issues. On a follow-up shot on a hot cock, my gun didn't fire. The safety was caught on fire, not safe, and the bolt didn't close all the way so the gun wouldn't fire. After working the bolt aggressively, eventually the safety worked again and I was able to fire again.

About 4 hours later, the same thing happened again. Once again, working the bolt aggressively seemed to fix the problem. Now this shotgun is relatively new (bought in May) but it has well over 500 rounds, maybe 1000 rounds through, albeit mostly low brass skeet loads.

I've since disassembled and cleaned it but haven't had a chance to fire it again. Duck season opens Saturday so I'll find out shortly if that addressed the issue. Wondering if any other OB'ers have had this issue?

Disassemble, clean thoroughly, lubricate, then take it out with as much a variety of shells as you can and see if it happens again.

Man, I feel bad you arent getting any replies, but it's probably because there aren't usually many problems with em. Three seasons with mine, and the only problem I had was when a shell primer lodged itself in the chamber and I had to break the gun down to dislodge the primer. But I'd consider that a shell malfunction rather than a gun malfunction.

Only advice I can give you: break it down, clean and oil it well, and give it another try.

This will be no help and completely off subject but I hope it jams everytime! Your single handedly killing every other team on the waterfowl shootout, should be on team coco by yourself!

Sounds to me like the gun isn’t going fulling back into battery.

Like Clames said, clean it really well and give it a little lube.

Sidenote. Bought the Outlander in part because of OB advice. In 3 seasons I've had 2 issues with it.

I let it get wet and was hunting in sub freezing conditions, and she froze up on me.

Gun wouldn't fire some old rusty Kent shells in my bag one hunt, and I missed out on firing at a couple birds.

As you can see I haven't really had any problems, and I've absolutely abused this gun.

What loads were you shooting in SD? smaller loads will cause jamming if not clean.

My best advice would be to buy a benelli next time.

My SBE runs great.

My A400 is going back to Beretta tomorrow. A problem with the bolt/shell lifter engagement gives it cycling problems.

I'm just giving Coco a little crap. I know a handful of people that shoot the berreta and I don't hear many complaints from them. But like you, my sbe runs great.

If I had to buy a new duck gun today, it would be a benelli.

Same thing happened to mine a couple years ago. Just had a little trash in. Cleaned it out and haven't had a problem since.

I wouldn't hesitate to buy another, this is a 20ga that has a problem with light loads.

I just like the idea of inertia better.

That A400 is a soft shooting little gun though.

Good to know. That sounds promising.

I bought my A391 11 years ago. It has never jammed until the ice storm last year. Gave me a little trouble but I did get ice in the action so that was probably it. I never used it as a boat paddle like some, because we have boat paddles but it has been through a lot and is still shooting like the day I bought it.

Just got a Benelli Nova as a backup/3.5" gun I haven't had a chance to shoot it yet, though, due to weather and work.

You might want to pull the trigger assembly out of the gun and look at the set scew that holds the safety in place. I had to remove that set screw and spring to reverse the safety for my lefthandedness. I could see that set screw and spring being an issue if it were to work itself loose somehow.
