I cannot either. That's why i posted. I thought maybe I'd learn something.

I will say though - I fished with a guide at Fork once who used a paper graph. I could see our lines and our spoons/jigs. You could clearly make out a shape moving to your lure. Was pretty cool.

I didn't realize people used sonar when saltwater fishing. Although I usually think of saltwater as shallow

People use a depth finder for specks/reds



but every offshore boat has big time sonar system

is it too much to ask that sonars display an actual fish shape on the screen to depict a fish?
all i see is clouds.

Check display options. Usually you can turn on fish ID.

All do display a fish shape, but they are nearly as sensitive on that setting and the fish shapes just represent stuff, not only fish.
