Plenty of elk killed with it every year.

What’s the range for that caliber for elk?

My uncle does. It's certainly not ideal, but it works with good shot placement

It's about like using a .243 for deer

With the right bullet, 300 yards I'd say.

Depends on the shot. I wouldnt like hard angled shots with it at any range, but broadside it should be fine out to 300 or so with good bullets. It's not going to run coast to coast in a big mature bull walking away, but itll get through the ribcage way out there

Learn something new everyday. I thought 30-06 was about as small as you would want to go. Thanks for the information

Would argue it was near perfection for North American big game until the 6.5 Creedmoor

The creation of the creedmore did not reduce the performance of the 7-08, whether the marketing wanted it too or not.

Modern deer are pretty damn tough, and the creedmore is tactically superior ballistically, and very terminally dynamic at BVR engagements

I was BSing before, but that seems a little weak for elk. I have never heard of anyone shooting that caliber for elk at least.

Nope. It’s fine on elk and black bear. Plenty of elk are killed with .243 as well.

Got a buddy in Wisconsin with enough guns to take over Cuba. Does all his elk, muley, and white tail hunting with a .243.

Not quite enough arse for my taste but he's killed way bigger deer than I ever will.

7/08 is a great round though.

bought 4junior a Ruger American youth model 7-08 a few years ago. He’s almost seven now and hope to get him on one during the holidays.

my kids are 6 for 6 on deer and 2 for 2 on hogs w ours. I hate the ammo we were shooting out of it. But I love the little gun and I think the trigger helps kids

My son uses one. He loves it as do I. The only thing I don't like is it doesn't leave a large blood trail. We had to track 2 of his deer which were perfect behind the shoulder shots with only tiny droplets every 20 feet or so.

I love my 7mm-08 as well. Another incredible caliber in my opinion is the 6.5 PRC. The ballistics are incredible, recoil is minimal, and deer do not get away.

I shoot 140 gr Federal fusions out of mine
Got a twenty yr old Remington Model 7. I’ve killed truckloads of deer with it. It’s my second favorite behind the never mentioned 30-06.
It’s bang flop with the aught six and I like that

I only hunt with my 7mm-08, my 7 mag has been collecting dust for 3 years now. When my son gets old enough I will pass it to him and probably buy myself another one. I shoot 140g accubonds and deer don’t even take a step.

Are you getting exits? What bullets are you using? Something is wrong with that and it's most likely the ammo.

Which is a shame. The. 30-06 is better now than it ever was with new bullet designs. Its just old and not cool enough anymore, even though it is the best do-all lower 48 caliber ever.
