5.56 Ammo availabilityPosted by 4Ghost
on 2/22/21 at 1:19 pm

Back in late November, I ordered Winchester 62 Grain Green Tip from Optics Planet for delivered price of $82.95 per box of 150. It was advertised as would be “backordered”. I got a notice last week it was in stock and did I still want it. I called and told them helll yeahh. I got my multiple box order just a few minutes ago. Check it out.

My local academy had M855's in boxes of 200 for 109 last week. Wife and I both got one. They are starting to show back up if you catch them.

I went into academy mid day a week or so ago and they have a few dozen boxes of 223 out.

I feel like folks are getting tapped out and prices of ammo is dropping slightly.
It does seem that way. Not only are prices dropping, availability seems to be getting better.
I bought .300BLK for under a dollar a round!

So what did we learn today kids?
“Buy the shite out of ammo then double the order when this crap clears!”

Prices should continue to decline and they are already slightly less than where they peaked a couple of weeks ago.
Production is finally beginning to catch up and demand has slightly fallen off. Plus the more people that dump ammo on Gunbroker, and thus flooding the market, the prices will continue to decrease.
Gunbroker is actually a good gauge on when the market will shift downward. Lately, auctions are getting fewer bidders.
Gun shops are actually holding back most of their ammo supply and putting it on Gunbroker. Apparently they are making like 300% profit doing this. Once they see that demand is falling, they will begin putting more and more back on the shelves.
The whole scheme is broken down here by an actual gun store owner: LINK
He believes prices will be below 2019 prices again, but that it may take a couple of years to get there.

Yeah, I agree that overall availability is beginning to improve, albeit very slightly. Two days ago I put in an order to Midway for 22 and 6.5 caliber Barnes TTSX bullets as well as 22 caliber Hornady V-Max bullets. The V-Max was limited to #200 bullets, but it's a start. Prices were not much more than usual. OTOH, primers and powder still look to be "unobtainium."

The primer/powder market will probably take years to catch back up.
