150 accubonds were my elk load last year. Also shoot a bunch of 125 Speer tnts as a light load for practice.

Federal 150 Blue box and the Norma 150s gave me similar performance. Really surprised and disappointed.
Switched to 130gr TTSX hand loads this year. Shoulder pass-thrus on 2 small ones so far.

Federal Fusion 150g. Last 2 deer I have shot dropped in their tracks

I’ve shot multiple with the Norma 150 gr with the Oryx bullets. Always had a pass through. Didn’t always have great blood at the shot site but always picked up after about 20 yards. Never had one go further than 60 yards with that ammo.

Norma 150g is what groups the best out of my son's Ruger 77. He's shot 4 deer with them and has yet to get a full pass through and little to no blood. Even on a 90# spike at 75 yards.
Man those Norma 150 whitetails shoot good in so many 308s.
What’s happening is your soft point cup and core bullet is shedding weight as it goes through. The answer if you want more exits is to send a tougher bullet so it doesn’t shed so much weight, a heavier bullet so it has more weight to shed, or send it slower so it doesn’t shed so much weight in the deer.
For tougher bullets, you could look at Barnes ttsx, nosler accubonds, federal fusions, or hornady/norma bonded equivalents.
For heavier softer bullets, me and a few friends are using 178 ELDXs right now out of short barreled 308s, there’s the 180 core lokt, and lots of other options.
For something in between there’s like a partition which has a tough base but sheds the nose, and the federal terminal ascent which is like a bonded match bullet that petals the nose. And there’s a lot of 165 and 168 options. So many great options in the 308, stick with it and you’ll find the hammer.

It's more dependent on what the gun groups than anything in my opinion, but, I've been very successful with the Barnes 168 ttsx and the Hornady eldx in 178

I’ve had good luck with Accubonds, Federal Fusions, American Whitetail and Norma Oryx with the elk on the box.

I bet the 165s in 308 would smash.

I am a fan of the fusions. Use them in my sons 223 wylde with great results.
That said.. I've always shot Remington Core Lokt 150 grain and they've always dropped them. If not there then within 20 yards.
I've yet to lose a deer with them.
To be fair they are all within 150 yards or so.

I shoot 130gr Barnes TTSX and have for the last 3-4 years. Absolutely love them for deer and pigs. If they run I’ve never had an issue with a blood trail on deer and all but one runner fell within 35 yards. Pigs I’ve only shot in the head so of course they were DRT.

Please don’t recommend people to use a match bullet.
I’m not saying it can’t kill deer but it’s not what you should be shooting animals with

I shoot Norma 150g with the elk on the in my 308. I can’t remember the difference between that and the whitetail load, but I’ve had good luck with them.
I’ve shot an axis buck that had excellent pass through and didn’t walk 10 yards, and a couple whitetail bucks that left a good blood trail and didn’t go more than 20 yards.
What kind of shot placement is he having on those deer?

The Norma 150’s with the elk on the box are their premium bonded Oryx bullet.

Yep. The best general purpose killing stuff bullet on the market IMO. I love them.
