Screw each and every one of these rules.
Go to the camp, have fun, decide among yourselves what to shoot and what not to shoot. I'll quit deer hunting before I worry about all these stipulations on what I can and cannot shoot because some jackasses in tensas parish think you should only kill 18" wide 8 points in Louisiana. We'll decide that among ourselves and I suggest everyone else does the same. If you can't come to an agreement that you're happy with, maybe you should look elsewhere for hunting property rather than looking to the state to force everyone else to conform to your ideas.

Yea, we wouldn't kill many deer a year, with 15" spread rules.
Some years probably wouldn't kill ANY bucks.

I'm not sure how basket rack 5 years old deer would fit into that. I've seem plenty of old deer with <15" spread. You can't go on points with those deer either.
My buddy shot a basket rack deer out of the swamp that was something like a 30pt with a 13" spread. Deer was about 6 years old by our estimation

I don't know anyone that would shoot anything under an 8. But if you don't own a whole bunch of land, it really doesn't matter what you do. It's what your neighbors do as well. Rules where we hunt (although I usually keep to the drinking) are if it's got horns and you shoot it, you have to mount it. The $400 price tag of a mount keeps people from shooting a 4 point just to get some meat.

I mean, that just sounds fricking terrible (not the drinking). I would love to meet the wet diaper that came up with that rule.

Why not just shoot a doe if you want meat

I'd have a house full of spikes
Do button bucks count as horns?

It never ceases to amaze me how people don't get the basics of herd management.

Still have to put a doe tag on a button buck, so not really. But shooting a button buck is looked down upon. Obviously people mess up and there aren't any penalties or anything.
I really haven't hunted much in the past several years, but the quality of deer has increased for the poeple that do, that's for sure. They usually pull about 2 quality deer from each property each year (2 different leases). Some years much better. It's only about 10 or so people that end up hunting there. Most of the people that hunt there couldn't care less about shooting a 6 point unless they thought it would be spreading bad genes.

Pretty nice (and very incorrect) assumption there.
We deal with a prominent biologist and we have our shite together. What applies in one part of the state doesn't apply in another. State level restrictions are not the answer to much of anything regarding antler size.
How many of you other clubs are paying for professionals to come and evaluate your property on a yearly basis and tell you his opinion rather than reading field and stream and drawing your own conclusions?
Not wanting rules =\= blasting everything. I should absolutely be able to if I choose to though.

So what is your biologist telling you about your heard?

I'm not going to write you goons a report or anything.
Basically we have too many palmettos and bucks dying of old age and always will because of our terrain.
