Maybe you can talk to your local game warden about that deer. Our biologist and I had a conversation with our GW regarding enforcement of the 13" rule, and his interpretation is that a 5.5 or 6.5 year old buck that is borderline or just under 13" wouldn't warrant a ticket because of the spirit of the law, which is to protect younger bucks.

I don't remember exactly what his wording was, but it was along the lines of shoot more does (of course) and keep doing what we're doing with bucks, which is shoot what you think is a nice one. With the land we have we're hardly putting a dent in them.

been through it too many times in different states, all say the same excuse. the fact is:::: your herd is what you kill. think about that, it's true, no matter the scenarios, reasons, excuses.
but, hey, have fun, shoot the 6pt. as soon as you see it,,, you're correct, the good buck that may be following will eventually die,, but not from a harvest.

No way I buy this. You can easily tell between a mature doe and a button buck. Just take your time and look at the whole deer. Or take your time and make sure you get a good clear look at its head.

I'm having piles upon piles of fun.
You have no clue what our kill records are or how good of a job we're doing with our property. There shouldn't be any type of state law on antler size to restrict what we're doing and what works for us.

you're right, I don't know what your "kill records" are and I don't give a shite. I'm sure they are exactly like countless other clubs that have a few members that would like to have a few nice ones on the wall, but overuled by the majority that are satisfied with the way their grandaddys did it (not that there was anything wrong with that, but completely different deer populations back then) and the status quo that don't want to change and had rather shoot a bunch of dog sized 5 and 6 points and drink beer, (not that there's anything wrong with that either).

My last club had some of the best people I've ever know. I still correspond with a few of even though I have not been in that club for over 10 years. Still, we had rules, and I loved it. No rules, and it would have fallen apart with the quickness even though we were like minded for the most part.

I got mad at our club one year because after a year of the three point on one side rule they reverted back to a buck of choice (i.e. shoot the first thing with horns that walks out) with 3 point or better after that.
The rational: "We didn't kill a bunch of deer last year." and "I got tired watching bucks I couldn't shoot."
Oh well, family club.
