Supposedly a man was struggling to swim. 2 jumped in to help and none of them surfaced. Really odd.

Not really…a good current and submerged timber will do it every time.

current could've pulled them into submerged timber and they got hung up and drowned.

hopefully that's not what happened, though.

Blind river is tidal. No current to speak of.

Water is currently low, due to lack of rain. Zero current. There was another drowning death a couple of weeks ago in the same area.

Did they ever figure out what happened with the other drowning? I believe it was on the Diversion by the Sanctuary neighborhood

Other than not being able to swim which I don't think was the case, are people just diving in and hitting stumps or something?

There's plenty of current where it opens into Maurepas. I guess that's water coming off the Amite into the Diversion.

My girlfriend (no pics) was on swim team all through high school. She jumped in around that area, and was 50 feet from the boat in no time. I had to crank the boat up to go pick her up.

My first wife came close to having this happen to her while on a tubing trip on the north shore. Tubing down one of the popular rivers that was running high from rainfall and she slipped out of the tube trying to avoid some tree branches poking above the water and went under.

I went down and pulled her out and she wanted no part of tubing after that day.

Just saw that.

Also, saw a Facebook post from some person saying they were swimming and the current caught them. I have no idea who that person is or how they know, so take it with a grain of salt.

Damn, sucks for his family and friends.

And to think, just putting on a PFD would have resulted in a different ending, unless he was real unfortunate and there would have been no need for the other 2 young men to jump in.
