If you aren’t at elevation the 5.0 is king. If you are and aren’t towing real heavy, I’d look hard at the 2.7l eco boost. The 3.5 is fun and powerful but chugs gas.

I’ve been a Ford guy my entire life. After getting my wife a a Yukon XL last year, and with how the new fords look, I’d lean more toward sierra / Silverado. 3.0 diesel is very interesting. Wife’s 5.3 is exceeding my expectations.

GM 10 speed is buttery smooth compared to Ford’s 10 speed.

Don't tell me that! I am a lifelong GM guy looking to go to Ford.

How can they have that many issues with them over GM? The 10 speed was a joint development between the two.

My dads 5.0 is a fantastic engine. To bad it’s back in the shop for the 3x for faulty axle hubs. They just issued 105k recalls for 2025. They are all crap.

I had a 2018 Chevy Silverado with the 5.3 and the 8speed. At 130k the transmission started to go out. And I had several other leaks. At 120k I changed the water pump.

Just bought a Ford f150 with the 3.5 and love it. Was looking for a 5.0 but settled for the 3.5 because of the deal I got. I love the truck. I commute 120miles a day and I’m getting 16.5-17mpg with 285/75/R18’s ridge grapps. I normally run between 80-85mph.

I have seriously thought about just getting a CK2500 in the near future. Drop $15-20K into it, completely redoing it and tuning the motor or dropping in a crate motor. Something I can actually fix and work on that will roll for decades.

I've got a 2018 F150 with the 2.7 Ecoboost. 160k+ miles. Can't complain. Was back and forth on paying to change out the catalytic converter vs. just get a new truck a few weeks ago. I do have to admit, the fit and finish of the GMC does draw me to them over the Ford. May just be that I've grown to like my wife's new Yukon.

I know, and that’s the irony.

I’ve never ridden in a sierra so I don’t know if it’s different from a Yukon, but under normal acceleration you can’t really notice my wife’s Yukon shifting. Even under power it’s smooth as can be.

Granted my f150 is a 2019. I’ve driven a 2023 as a loaner when I got new tires, and it felt much better, but still not as smooth as the Yukon.

I would also look at the reviews on your local Ford and Chevy dealerships if you plan to use them for service. My local Ford customer service was absolute trash so it drove me to a Chevy.

It’s not my GMC but a friend of mine. His issues were for the turbo failing, catalytic converter failing, a valve was stuck causing motor to over heat and shut down. All issues related to the emissions system

Another friend has the same truck same year and no issues.

Are people having good luck negoiating on new trucks yet? I see some dealer rebates but anything beyond that?

Tesla would’ve been a better commuter than the 3.5, 5.0, 2.7, 6.2, 7.3

Have him check completed date on door jam. Good odds it was finished on a Friday or Monday like dad’s suburban was, total piece of chit.

I have to go to job sites and fab yards daily when not in the office. Use 4x4 pretty regularly. Don’t want a Tesla.

Biggest difference you're going to find is that Ford has cut a lot out of their packages. For instance you have to get a platinum level to get power tilt and telescope steering wheel. Also, the FX package no longer comes with rubber floor mats. GMC is a much better buy relative to those things.

Has GM fixed the issues with the 6.2?

Maybe different year models. I had a 21 F150 with the 10 speed and it would skip 2nd gear down shifting when slowing down and it felt like you’d get rear ended. It would also hesitate slightly when accelerating hard like it couldn’t decide on which gear to go to.

I’ve since had a 24 and now have a 25 Silverado with the 10 speed and they were both smooth as can be.

I just attribute it to the kinks getting worked out over time.

You do get a whole lot more at equivalent trims levels with GMs over Ford. And for a cheaper price.

Did GM change the operating temps for the 10 speed? That was the main issue with the 6 speeds is the operating temp was 210f and was cooking your transmission fluid.
