2011 Ecoboost Timing chain rattle

2011 F150 Ecoboost, non platinum, no truck nuts, with 123K miles
I am starting to hear the timing chain rattle on start up. Usually hear it about once a week. The clatter is noticeable but not as bad as some others I have heard.
Anyone have any recommendations for a mechanic in BR,besides a dealership, that will work on it? Adams motor wont even touch it.

Tri care. Prepare your wallet.

Do you think its worth fixing or just trade it in?
Posted on 8/20/18 at 1:17 pm to anewguy
Depends on what the issue is.

Hopefully just some sludge build up blocking oil flow till pressure comes up. But well see

It will get worse
Ford won’t warrantee it despite having a TSB on it for 4 yrs now
Good luck
Traded mine in on a V8 back in February and couldn’t be happier
ETA: mine started doing it once a week on cold startup and then progressed into multiple times a day if it sat for over 6hrs

Did the same thing.

Someone pulled the pin out of your grenade.

Trade it in ASAP for a truck with a real engine....Tundra 5.7 or Ford 5.0.

Trade it in. I have 5 years and 65k miles left on my warranty, and if it happens outside of that, I’m trading it in. You’ll prob spend $1600 fixing the mfr. very labor intensive

Impossible
Some Ecoboost owners swear this is the best engine ever and can pull a triple axle 40' trailer with ease at 80 mph

No replacement for displacement.
Boosted engines offer great power and excellent efficiency in a small package, but they have never (outside of commercial applications) been known for longevity.
Superchargers are the magic bullet, but are more expensive and you have to sort out the heatsoak issue.
It needs a new home.

At least. I was quoted $4k.
If it jumps time the motor alone is $8k, and the cab has to be removed to replace it.
Trade the POS in on a 5.0. that's what I did and couldn't be happier.

And this is why you can look at used Fords and tell by the price what engine is in it, eco-boost or V8

They will come up with a letter from ford stating that it will make that noise. Had a 11 ecoboost did same thing and never could get fixed

I was waiting on the tundra/ecoboost hate.
I hav enjoyed this motor and it has never had a problem till now. My last 2007 Sierra need the all front end parts, cv axles, motor mounts, and burned a quart every 1000 miles at 120k when I traded it it. Every truck has their problems.
