It just kills the feel out of a baitcaster when I throw a heavy cork, but I could do it if need to. I also feel like they really glide better when I throw them with a spin setup.

I take a crow hop sometimes when slinging a popping cork. I'd have all sort of backlashes

Yep, I won't fish any corks with a baitcaster

you don't have any problems fishing with them with a baitcaster?
Only into wind casts, sometimes.

gotcha. Whatever works the best for you is my philosophy

How I learned, the weight makes it easier to cast w/o birds nests.

You must not like the fight of the catch

I assume you are fishing saltwater. Penn 4500/ I have three. They are very reliable and super easy to maintain. They can handle any speck or red you catch inshore. I combine this with a Castaway medium action rod. This combo is probably less than 200 bucks and will get the job done.

2 weeks ago I bought a 7'3" Duckett Ghost rod for $100 at Academy, it's super light and has a fast action tip with micro guides that are supposed to help with casting and line twisting, I paired it with a Penn Battle and took it out to Delacroix the next day and we caught our limit of specks and the rod and reel performed very well.

If you feel like fighting, just reduce the drag.

Pen battle 2000. I've caught thousands of fish on mine over the last 3 years. Go the 15 lb braid. I outcast everyone. Catches reds all day long. I have it on a black allstar

I've got all 4000s right now. Going to drop down to 2500 or 3000 next time to see how I like it.
Going to get my dad a Penn Battle for Christmas. He only just starting using an old spinning reel a friend gave him. He's been using baitcasters exclusively for 40+ years.

The drag is still very strong for a 2000, and with the 15 braid (6 dia.) it can still haul in some nice size fish. The only thing i dont do with it is fish doubles, but i have a 4000 that is exclusively for doubles( 30 braid)

I just don't like casting a bigger reel all day. It's much easier to throw a 3000 all day. The weight difference over the course of a day makes a difference. The difference in drag is negligible in most instances.
