I remember the mdwfp talking about how the highest percentage of deer that test positive for cwd come not from hunters but from roadkill. I guess for that reason they are eager to check every roadkill they can.

Theoretically, anything can spread it. "Scavengers such as vultures, crows, coyotes, mice, opossum, etc., can move the prions." LINK

It cannot be killed by a digestive system. If a vulture (or any scavenger) consumes the right areas of a dead deer then it can come out somewhere else in its shite.

I wonder what the odds of that being an isolated case in Issaquena County are?

I've been wondering the same. I've been waiting to hear of another from the area, but none yet. I've taken a couple myself to be checked.

If you are a landowner in Issaquena what motivation do you have to bring in samples or notify authorities of suspect deer? If I was a shareowner of a river club or large landowner I wouldn't say a word about a troubled deer.

You can spread it just from the dirt on your boots.

Yep. Absolutely no reason to raise your hand and say your deer has CWD. They’ll just say no salt licks, feeders, we need to shoot a bunch at night to test, etc.
Its been 50 years and there’s no fix for it. And a human hasn’t caught it.

Special Deer Season in CWD Zone

257WBY, per article, lower than expected samples collected from CWD zone. As we suspected those hunters are not turning in their deer. So they are extending season in CWD Zone to collect more samples.
