Are you looking for something traditional or modern?

Blue or stainless?

Several Colts in that range. The lowest price being the O1991.

As others have stated the Ruger would be an excellent choice for a made in the USA 1911.

Plenty options in that range if you shop. Saw a Sig 1911 Tacops for $1100. Above your price range but still very good deals out there.

I have yet to shoot a bad one. I say buy a Remington and a Rock Island. You can personalize the Rock Island and completely make it your own.

If you can find a Sig on sale i would go w/ that. Lots of value in those: almost 100% forged, stainless steel w/ nitron coating, usually some great extras including std 8 round mag, and virtually no problems ever w/ mine.

There's a Springfield 1911 on Bayou Shooter for $600.

Check out Armslist and you'll have several 1911 options.

I'm partial to my Kimber Pro Eclipse
