17HMR or 22WMR for hogs?

Looking to pick up a new rimfire to use on hogs on the WMAs. As I'm sure most of you know, the WMAs I have seen have a rimfire only law in place when it is not deer season. Trying to decide between 17HMR and 22WMR for this application.

Was having this conversation with a buddy yesterday...why not the .17WSM

Think I'd prefer the .17 WSM

22 mag. You can get bullets from 35gr. to 50gr.

I am looking at the savage A22 magnum...

Out of curiosity, why not at least a .223?

The WMAs are rimfire only not during deer season.
Sounds like a split between 22mag and 17wsm but I think I’m leaning 22mag. Looking at CZ 457 and the A22.

I love my .22 wmr. I shoot squirrels and pigs with it. I have the ruger American with a redfield scope. Heavier bullet from a 22 mag was my selling point. Hogs drop like a brick.

I have a 17wsm and I wish it was a 22mag. I jumped a momma hog with her piglets a couple years back and instead of running, she turned and faced me at about 15 yards as if to guard the piglets. I shot her in the face. She ran off a little ways in some palmettos and I could hear her making some type of noise like she was hurt, but pissed off, I didn’t dare pursue her. I would’ve much rathered have a 22 mag that day.

Without a doubt, I'd go 22 Mag and use a stout bullet like the Hornady Critical Defense load.

Yeah I'm looking at those rounds and Federal makes a 50 grain round too. Think I've decided on the CZ 457 American.

I vote 22mag. I have a CMR-30 that I’d love to lay into a pig and piglets with. Top it with a can, and go to work

I've been on squirrel hunts that turned into hog killing with only my Henry 22 Mag. 40 Grain FMJ CCI Mini mags.
22 Mag is a very underrated round IMO.

I've been shooting squirrels with these rounds. There isn't very much meat loss. Even when shooting a squirrel in the head with the JSP rounds I would often blow the head off and booger up the front shoulders. The fmj punches a nice pin hole in the head.
I went from this with jacket soft points
to this with FMJ
