Not much better than hearing one coming through the palmettos, unless its hearing one tipping through the water.

That's why I pretty much only hunt the rut now. If I get to see, or even hear, the chasing in those palmettoes, it was worth the trip.

I figured the tree huggers would've built some sort of eco-friendly, solar powered shitter complex down there by now. Just saw where you now have to pay for a permit now.

Been that way for a while. I wish they were $500.

Unscented wet wipes will keep moist in my hunting pack for a couple of years in a zip loc bag. They came in handy one sunny winter morning last year.

I walked almost two miles one morning to a spot only to find I had no release. Bow/arrows useless.

I always keep the following in my backpack. Backpack stays in my truck during hunting season and goes on all hunts.

Binoculars
1 bottle of water
Ink pen
+/- range finder, depending on stand
Short piece of string or small zip tie
TP
Compass
Electronic hearing muffs
Thermacell (early part of season)
Phone
Knives, 2
Extra pair of glasses (yes, I'm old.....)
Flashlight, one regular and one head light
Cell phone extra bettery
Gloves
Grunt call
Varmint call
Paracord
Hand warmers (late part of season)
Facemask/hats to cover ears
Bottle of water
Camo poncho

My backpack has a lot of stuff in it, but I also frequently use it as a rest for my handguns.

Missed an opportunity for the biggest deer I've ever seen, on our place, because I didn't chamber my 30/06 one morning.

Got out of camp later than usual, rushing, and just forgot.

45 yards & broadside

At least a 12 and enormous

I almost always have a bowl with me. Something about a couple rips in a tree stand when the suns coming up in the middle of the woods feels so right.
