Some early morning updates:

Men advance in the 4x400 but a bad split from the youngster Quincy Wilson made it scary. He split a 47.2 and LSU's Vernon Norwood had to drop a 43.7 to keep us in it.

Women's 4x400 qualified easily

The 1500m finally got to Hobbs Kessler because he looked done in the 800m and didn't advance. We'll have to rely on Bryce Hoppel now

I was just about to post that about Quincy. Ooooof

Takes away any argument for having run him in the mixed

I think we’ll be more than fine in the final.
Go Norman, Vernon, Bailey, Hall

Do we know if Sydney will run the 400 relay? Can’t imagine why not.

I have to imagine she wants to take the WR sub 50.

Could probably do that at worlds and then switch to the 400 flat and hell, even the 200 if she really wants a challenge.

I'm not sure Syd couldn't have run the leadoff faster and I'm only half joking

Femke ran a 47 split in her 400m relay. With a running start so not quite the same but pretty close

I mean last month Wilson ran two times in the 44s

3 seconds slower is wild. Do we have Covid running through our team?

Quincy has been running 44 low the last 6 months consistently. Dude must have been completely terrified.

Probably a combination of being 16 at the Olympics, leading off, and feeling stale from sitting in the village for a few weeks waiting on his chance. It might've been better to let him run the prelims of the mixed relay to get the jitters out

Either he also has Covid, or the nerves of being at the Olympics at 16 hit him extra hard.

If it was anyone else I’d be more frustrated

47.2 is a CRAZY bad time.

That was almost an expensive lesson for the future. Thankfully they got him the experience with minimal effect on their medal chances.

If she was to move around distance I think the 800 would be be more likely than the 200. It's rather see her do the 400/400H double.

He's talking about Parker Valby

I'm sure when she's running today we'll get another "why didn't y'all tell me track girls were so hot" thread

Yeah we were lucky to have some veterans on the relay because Wilson really wasnt ready. Norwood had the experience to not run away from him in the exchange zone when he noticed Quincy was struggling. He basically shuffled a few steps to make sure he got the stick cleanly, then ran a superhero leg. Bailey closed it out well and didn't panic or try to get all the ground back in the first curve. We'll be fine for the final.
