Louisiana is very cozy with BP because of the employment factor.

There has not been much hell raised towards BP. However once the oil gets on the white sandy beaches in FL. Hell would be raised and BPs sunny disposition would quickly fade.

Maybe if LA got any money from the activity we could do something for ourselves.

This was in FEDERAL waters on a FEDERAL lease. Perhaps if LA even got as much as TX does from the feds we could be a little more prepared.

I can't recall how far offshore Deepwater Horizon was located, but, I think it was more than 24 but less than 200, which would place it in the Exclusive Economic Zone under UN Law of the Sea.

Just a question but what could LA do?

I think we should have had a lot more boom on hand in case of a major spill. I think we wasted a lot of time waiting to get more booms.

Boom only helps with oil on the surface of the water.

BP doesn't directly employee a lot of Louisiana residents.

Yes a sound plan should be in place. However this took place over federal waters, while Katrina is covered under the stafford act and the states have to speerhead the response

Secondly, we are getting screwed year of year not gettin our royalties.

I would have liked to have seen the state and/or feds have enlisted all those fishermen beforehand as some sort of emergency response/national guard type deal where they do training for one week like once a year (not during fishing seasons) and have strategic stockpiles of boom and whatever other equipment they would need to deploy.

So despite having thousands of oil rigs out in the GOM, you're saying this oil spill was just as unimaginable and unlikely as 9/11

To this magnitude...yes. With all those wells in all these years, this is the first. Stop blaming LA.
