No it wasnt, They have been drilling in 5000' water for decades

Jesus. I thought this oil spill thing was blown out of porportion, but now it appears (by numbers) to be worse than the Exxon Valdez incident which was a huge deal back in the day.
Damn.

Is that possible? I don't know much about off shore rigs. Can a rig even put out 40,000 bbls/day?
A rig isn't putting out anything.

why did you delete your post about 40k bbl/day, did you post misinfo or did you post something you were not suppose to?

from where?
They found another leak in the riser. It doesn't matter how many holes there are in a garden hose, the same volume of water comes out of it.
Its been leaking 5,000 barrels a day the whole damn time. They just estimated it wrong.

You're right.
$1,000,000 / day spread rate
$100,000,000 + well.
Yeah...they were probably winging it.
"Let's poke a hole and see what we find!!!"
This type of comical underestimate of the technologies involved in deepwater oil drilling (or oil drilling in GENERAL, for that matter) is one of the many things that give me little faith in the American public educating themselves about ANYTHING of importance.

Because that type of volume puts everyone in PANIC mode....with good reason.

don't know if it has been posted because i have not read the rest of the thread yet but i talked to my buddy who is an engineer a few minutes ago and he said that trying to burn it is not going to do a damn thing. said that pretty much there is nothing they can do about it and the only reason they are trying some things is for public image. wouldn't look good if they just got on tv and said "pretty much there isnt a damn thing we can do about this"

But only in the OT could all of this turn into a shite flinging match.

Read the thread anyway. Some of the shite being talked about might blow your mind. At least the last couple pages might.

Those of us in the industry already know this
