I don't know why everyone is so focused on the next 3 days. They may not be able to stop the flow of oil for 60 days or more. The entire U.S. Gulf Coast will get Oil on their beaches. Big Oil has never committed the appropriate resources to preventing disasters like this. It's all a bottom line cost item.

Where are all the experts who at first were saying the oil would disperse and this wouldn't have much of an envirionmental impact?

they only need to plug one hole

think of it as a hose and it has 3 holes in it. same amount of liquid will flow through. they just need to shut it at the base

Serious question. I know there is a whole hell of a lot of pressure pushing this oil up. But would shooting torpedoes into the well not maybe collapse the well? I heard it discussed but didn't hear why it wouldn't work.

Make it much worse as you would blow the top off the bottle. The well is lined with steel casing all the way down to the oil reservoir. If you blow the top section of pipe off the well there nothing restricting the flow at all.
There is still a chance they can get the control mechanism(BOP) on the top of the well to close it in.

they have closed the casing shear rams on the BOP which has restricted the flow some what. They are in the process of closing the blind shear rams and they believe this will greatly diminish if not shut of the flow.

Just waking up on the west coast and checking in. Let's all hope those little robots and the people controlling them can get this thing stopped sooner than later.

You can run casing down deep as you want I would think. However, obviously that won't work or it would have been done.

Cost can't be a factor in that...
