For Top Hat: I think I've read that they would "wire saw" off the riser providing a surface of sufficient flatness and smoothness to mate w/ a gasket/seal assembly on the bottom of the Top Hat.

re: removing LRMP and inserting tool through BOP...
Isn't it generally assumed that something is physically obstructing the BOP rams and preventing them from closing? Whether it is a drill pipe joint, casing hanger, casing or liner from below, chunks of cement, or whatever; something is more than likely blocking the rams, right? (I'm the Sample Catcher from 1985. Please continue to be patient w/ me!)

i don't know why the rams are not closing. if there is, in fact, drill pipe in it, then pay no attention to my suggestion.

Im pretty sure there is still drill pipe in it, not sure how much though. For them to move a rig on site, fish the broken string out and finish tripping it all out would take a pretty long time.

they need to keep up the junk shots. those 2 leaks to the right on the riser look to have slowed to a trickle

Suttles just said that next step will probably be top hat w/ LMRP, then BOP/BOP.........but only when they no longer feel Top Kill can be successful.

Probably so. I understand the crew was able to get a annular seal on it then lost it for some reason and then all hell broke loose.

I am not at all knowledgeable on the intricacies of a dynamic top kill (which I understand can be tricky under the best of circumstances).........I'll just have to trust the experts.

I thought the same thing. Is there a way to max pump junk and target it those areas on the riser?

Probably not, because I suspect if it was feasible someone smarter than me would have thought of it.

I'll defer to our knowledgeable folks for an explanation. Thanks in advance.

nor do i, but i don't see any way it can work as long as there's holes in that riser. if they can cut it off and set a valve or something it can work but otherwise it's just going to flow out of the breaks in the riser.

That is almost redundant.

But if so, why wouldn't it have closed when they attached a hydraulic hose and pressured up? Also, and I am again showing my ingorance, I thought the Koomey was set up so that it could closed even with major leaks.

Interesting Read on Junk Shots

for your edification.

Please read this and you may start to understand why everything cannot be explained in 30 second sound bites. You might also understand that the stop and start in the mud pumps are planned. The lack of progress on the left hand plumes in the riser do have me worried, but new shapes/sizes may yield better results.

I am wondering if drill pipe is in the well why they aren't trying top kill by circulating thru it. I know they put a valve on the exposed end early on.
