Just a theory me and my dad were talking about
my engineering background does tell me that this should be possible, though the odds are stacked heavily against achieving exactly the right gas/air/diesel mixture....my field experiece has proven it to be exremely rare, if at all possible though....
sounds like you and your dad are having some interesting conversations....

ROFL saw that too, the twitter update was from a few hours old CNN story. These guys are killing themselves in the PR department. They should really hire a PR firm.

Anyone know how long the shifts are for the ROV operating teams?

I don't really see a problem with that...their job is to relate developements to us...if there are no developements, I see no reason for them to be there....

No. Nobody knows... not even the ROV opereators. Nobody their is allowed to carry a watch.

AC said that BP has spent 50 million on its latest PR blitz.

Conversely, if a development happens and they are not there, how will the make a timely release about it? It's called shift work.

is the enterprise 1 showing that there is no riser connected?

i really thought that was one of the valves but im not sure now

I know earlier in the day when the top hat was next to the BOP, there was a flow coming out of the top which was very visable, im just guessing that it was the nitrogen being pumped through it not allowing sea water to enter. another question, which maybe stupid, if in fact the riser is not connected and they plan to attach whenever, what will stop the hydrates from building up in the riser?

Can someone give me an update, please?
Sounds like according to this thread : LINK, that the LMRP cap is on? I thought the cap was abandoned due to the poor cut, and the crew was going with the tophat?
Second, some cam questions:
What the hell is enterprise 1 looking at?
To me enterprise 2 looks like it is showing the tophat in the plume. Is that right?
Is Skandi 1 looking at the top of the BOP?

yea ive watched it a couple times, but we both know if everything went to plan we wouldnt be in this situation. i just really hope this works.

Enterprise – ROV 1 is showing top of the cap/dome. The ROV has its hand on an open valve. When give the word the valve will be closed and will be a good sign.
I take it as a good sign that the ROV has been sitting there for two hours with its hand on the valve.
The oil reaching the ship is suppose to be when the valve is shut. Suppose to take as much as 3 hours according to someone here.
Skandi ROV1 is looking at the base of the cap.

I know very little about this but it looks to me like the place the new riser will attach. Just below where the ROV arm is hanging on appears to be an annular BOP... the big white thing. Just a guess though.

Thanks for the update.
Man, I'm real curious to see what the plume will look like with the valve turned, but I'm not staying up any later. That shite could take all night. I wish they had a RSS feed for when something is about to happen.

I am getting discouraged. It has been about 5 hours since the cap was put on and they still have not closed the valves on top of the cap.
It also looked like the flow, at least at times, was spurtish, like it might be plugging with hydrates.
I think they might have to pull of the cap and break out the diamond saw again like BP wanted to do the first time but where prevented from doing by the coast guard.

OK so I finally have an internet connection that doesn't have videos blocked and I'm looking at the Top Hat/LMRP combo. Interesting. The drill pipe must be something similar to what we call a parasite string which is one of the ideas I submitted to BP. I also submitted using nitrogen but in a different application than a parasite string.
Pretty creative what they have going there. They're circulating warm water down the booster lines and up the riser to help warm the oil/gas. The parasite string has to be tied into a separate pumping unit, possibly a coiled tubing or snubbing unit since both have their own BOP systems which would allow them to handle the gas at surface. They could send it to a separator and/or flare it from there. I also suggested using a coiled tubing unit to pump the nitrogen. They're basically trying to create a production system. Gas lift the oil and simulate the earth's warmth with warm surface water.
Sort of cool to see that I hit on some of the same ideas that they were looking at.
The weak link looks to be the Top Hat system. It looks like they had to jerry rig that bit onto the bottom of the LMRP. Probably because of that pathetic jagged cut the shears made on the riser.
Do away with the Top Hat and I think that system might work.

Skandi ROV1 shows just now a significant drop in oil coming out of the cap. Hope this is correct and not just the currents making it look that way. I was actually watching it when it happened and it was as fast as flipping a switch. I is possible the oil is just blowing out the other side now if the cap shifted on the riser. Fingers crossed.

I didn't see when it was put in place so I'm not sure which view that is. Is that of the Top Hat near the BOP?
