Good grief that thing is really flowing.

Yes the cap/top hat thing looks like a rocket. Body is yellow, 4 fins on bottom are white. Valves sticking out on top of the dome/cone section.
What you are seeing is the oil boiling out the bottom of the cap/top hat.

I just can't help but think the decision to rush the cut is going to come back to haunt them.

You can thank the coast guard for that decision.

Ugh, too difficult to watch this anymore. I'm off for some rest and hopefully when I wake up these videos will look more encouraging.

From what I understand the crew was able to get an annual seal but for some reason the seal was loss. The cement was probably contaminated and needed more time.

Hopefully the coast guard will let them bring the diamond drill back down and do this right.

Has anyone heard from the NukemVol guy or COtigers insider?
I think it is near impossible to tell what is going on right now.

why does the coast guard care about the saw? why would they not want them to use it again?

I missed a couple hours. Did we make a decision as to whether this thing appears to be working or not? Still a large plume but is that because we still haven't closed the valves?
Posted on 6/4/10 at 7:05 am to mrbrdodson
please, one of you guys that know what's going on , is the damn thing working?
Posted on 6/4/10 at 7:07 am to 756
Does anyone know if the valves are closed and the pumps are on? I sure hope not judging from that feed. Looks absolutely horrible.

BP plans to successively close four vents Friday, hoping to halt oil that is still escaping into the Gulf of Mexico, said Doug Suttles, the company's chief operating officer.

I doubt we will know for sure if it is/isnt working until BP tells us something, but just by looking at it, its pretty hard to say it is, but i havent given up hope yet.

My wife just ran out of the bedroom smiling and says "They capped it!" I don't know what news source she was watching but I believe it was local. They reported that they have it capped and once the close the vents (which BP said would happen sometime this morning) they should be in good shape.
I'm a little (more than a little) frustrated with the news outlets.
Just like the top kill, this may be "working" but it hasn't "worked" yet.
I've really got my fingers crossed though........

where does bp get these morons? on msnbc bp's hydrogeologist says"the gulf can take it". what in the hell is on?

Doug Suttles, the guy with the smarmy smirk who rarely answers the question asked, was just on the Today show. He says the cap is on and "some" oil is flowing up. They have not yet been able to measure how much, and they have not yet closed the valves. According to him - which I tend to always believe he is lying, but maybe once he can tell the truth - the valves will be closed later today and they will be able to determine how good the seal is and how much they can pump up. FWIW. It's sad when information straight from the BP leadership can not be taken at its face value, but this time I really hope he's telling the truth.

i have a feeling heads are going to roll later today. Hate to be Mr. Pessimistic, but there is no seal.
