This decision to go back to the top hat really makes no sense. It seems like someone new started making the calls.

I get this same feeling.

I believe I read that it was the Fed govt, not the engineers that pulled the plug on the Top kill as well. That bothers me.

Is there really nothing out there that will cut this riser on the first try?

Is the shiny thing the blade? If so, they are almost through.

From what I understand of why the BOP failed, if they make this cut is it conceivable that they could remove the drill pipe and make the BOP function to at least slow down the flow? I could be way off here just wondering.

Is this a vertical cut or horizontal cut?

Definitely cutting as high as possible to the bend to make sure as much length as possible is going to go up into the top hat device

Horizontal by thew way

they are cutting too high, the square side of the shear needs to be around the cut.

They are moving/adjusting the bite.

They are now moving lower. hopefully the low cut from the diamond wire saw will help.

Skandi ROV1 has a good overhead shot of the kids at work. It is nice to have both feeds going in separate windows so you can each both at the same time.

Looks like it's detached now.

ETA: maybe not.
