oil shooting straight up from the top of the BOP.

Riser is partially cut. They have removed the saw and are sending it to surface for refit or replacement. Presumably they will flange up another saw and get to cutting again. We ain't there yet.

Only partially. The oil shooting out sideways is coming out of the cut that the wire saw made. So that tells you how much progress they made before the saw jammed.

Yeah, I see now that you say that. I hadn't looked in awhile. The little bity cut is the saws work. And I guess the big gash at the end was the shears work?

When you look at that thing all I can think is "what a mess -- what a complete and utter mess!"

Am I alone in this?

I think we need Aquaman at this point folks....

I can't see a thing but that storm of oil down there. What a tragedy...

I'll admit it, the bayouprophet is not feeling very prophetic right now.

How can they - ROV guys - see anything at this point?

That's correct. The shear made pretty short work of the riser once they were able to cut off the other smaller pipes.

I think they try to stay out of the oil plume as much as possible. Visibility isn't really all that bad except right in the plume.

Visibility:
ROV grab on below and use thrusters to force an upwards water flow.

they seriously need to hire a group of 10 year old kids to operate these things.
I saw one ROV operator try no less than 7 times to hook a tow rope to a hook.

Guarandamntee you a kid would have done it in 2 tries max.

Is it going up or coming down? Hard to tell with the motion of the ROV.

Yep. Looks like they're right at the surface. The saw just went from horizontal to vertical so maybe they're about to haul it aboard.

Why not have a backup saw ready.....how about ten backups to the backups.
Someone had to anticipate this possibly happening.

You don't know that it isn't. They probably don't want two saws in the water -- one going up and one going down -- at the same time for fear of collision. Sure, it is frustrating. But think how we would feel if the crashed those saws together and had to send in to the beach for another one.
