My idea was to bring in a coiled tubing unit with a orienter on bottom like we use in coil tubing drilling. Mount a crossover onto it and screw it into the choke/kill line of the BOP then pump nitrogen and try to introduce a ice/hydrate plug inside of the BOP.

Mine were to suction through the choke/kill lines,
They are going 2 do that in a couple of weeks!

Not talking about sealing the well. It would just be like a coupling connecting to a new riser going up to the new drillship. The cut wouldn't have to be as perfect as what they need now. I just wouldn't know if that flange would hold up?

What is that yellow box that is being lowered now?
Posted on 6/2/10 at 1:20 pm to King
I don't think they're lowering it.
I think that is what is carrying the broken band saw to the surface.
I saw a ROV robot arm attaching cable to it so it could tow the saw back.

On the CNN feed it lets you flip between two cameras. I now see them using the circular saw against the cut at the top of the BOP.

I can't say since I don't know what type of seal they plan to use. If it were me I would want to use the weight of the new riser somehow to form the seal. Maybe some sort of tapered bushing that the riser would sit on and form the seal as the heavy riser pushed down. The more weight you applied the better the seal.

That is pretty much the plan

just got the circular saw spinning.
Posted on 6/2/10 at 1:30 pm to meauxjeaux2
now theyre cutting it with the circular saw, I thought they said it wasnt gonna make a clean enough cut?????
Posted on 6/2/10 at 1:31 pm to redstick13
It's hydraulic. The teeth (green) come out and stretch open. As it is closing it compresses over the flange.

Aren't the bolts/other obstructions on that flange going to interfere with the LMRP cap seal? Seems like there's no clearance with how low they're cutting.

I just the theory was frick the band saw. I wonder how long it took someone to make then approve that decision. Maybe the ROV operator just said frick it I am going to do something.

Damn, day late and a dollar short.

It doesn't look like it is even scratching the paint.

I wonder if they are gonna use the circular saw. looks like they are just chilling with it now
Posted on 6/2/10 at 1:37 pm to King
Maybe they put the blade on backwards?
Posted on 6/2/10 at 1:37 pm to King
I'm sure that pipe is as hard as woodpecker lips. Doubt they'll have much luck with the circular. Or it would take a month of Sundays....
