Ok. Looks like they started about 830. First oil coming out of cut was about 45 minutes later. Anyone care to extrapolate out how long this will take?

Is the other pulley behind the pulley we are seeing?
In other words, has the wire just pierced the riser?

So what are we looking at now? Is that the diamond saw? Where is it cutting?

From the rpms the saw is turning it is going to be a while until the pipes are cut. Cutting the drill pipe is gonna be a bitch. I hope it doesnt have to cut thru a tool joint. I would think the drill pipe is jammed against the wall of the riser they are cutting now. If that is the case the first 1/3 of the cut will be the slowest. The oil leaking out should help to keep the blade lubricated and cutting faster.

hope nothing moves and kills the blade

It didn't take very long to pierce through the outside of the riser.

I wonder if someone will yell timber when it falls?

I would imagine that they are going to take their tame. If you force it and break/dull that saw wire, the replacement scenario would be time consuming. Plus the logistics of getting it back in the exact position.

If a riser falls in the ocean and no one is around to hear, does it make a sound?

Stupid question here... is BP not broadcasting sound, or is it silent at the bottom of the ocean, like space.

Water carries sound better than air. I think if they had audio on this video, you would hear it quite will, but it would probably be pretty unpleasent. In Space No One Can Hear You Scream.

the pipe is suspended by straps that go up to the surface, it shouldnt fall

is that a new leak above the blade?
Posted on 6/1/10 at 10:06 pm to SlidellBammer
of course, what did you think would come out?
Posted on 6/1/10 at 10:07 pm to Archie Bengal Bunker
Why did they stop? If you notice, the pulley is half painted in yellow. Are they visually counting rpms? There is also some markings on on the slide that look like ~2" gradients given the 21" width of the riser.

well, it's well above the blade, right? as in, not at the source of the cut..

I've never known a ROV to transmit sound but I don't think the CCTV we watched on even had sound capabilities. Maybe the ROV operators have sound. I know they are equipped with a sonar.

It looks like that thing is making some pretty good progress.
