This picture was taken three days after the spill

That was three days ago.

I'm afraid to see what that spill looks like now.

Where's the platform in relation to this?

I agree this is not good, but i believe BP is doing all they can.

I don't doubt that at all.

But if they can't plug it soon, I'm afraid that things are going to get very REAL. And by that I mean REALLY BAD.

Yeah, and what they are doing is working??? They are doing the same lame things they always do and marine life suffers and has devastating results on local economies.

You're such a moron. READ for a change, they are actually trying solutions that have never been attempted before to get this done as fast as possible.

If you have a Billion Dollar Industry you need to put whatever money into containing an Oil Spill.

They are...they are building a brand new type of rov for this! It was designed and almost finished construction in a matter of days. You think that work is cheap, or easy?

Oil Spills are solvable. They just don't invest the NECESSARY DOLLARS to solve the problem.

Bring on that solution then hoss. I am an oceanographer, and I can tell you WITH CERTAINTY they are not solvable. Like medicine you have safeguards in place and when something goes wrong you can treat the symptoms. Show me this solution pal.

Just another reason why America needs to get the oil monkey off its back.

They are taking OUR oil and selling it back to us plus manipulating the system to keep prices up, all the time fricking up where we live.

We allow them to shite in our yard and sell it to us at top dollar.

Way to go BP!! I hope and pray you go bankrupt from lawsuits .

Define "taking." Do you know how much oil companies have to pay the state and fed government for the "privilege" of drilling for oil, always with the chance that all they get is a dry hole?

A flyover on Tuesday, April 27 at 5:00 p.m. (CST) showed a rainbow sheen approximately 600 miles in circumference with areas of emulsified crude. The edge of the sheen is approximately 23 miles off the coast of Louisiana.

More than 76,580 feet of boom (barrier) has been assigned to contain the spill. An additional 167,220 feet is available and 385,080 feet has been ordered.

To date, the oil spill response team has recovered 6,206 barrels (260,652 gallons) of an oil-water mix. Vessels are in place and continuing recovery operations.

70 response vessels are being used including skimmers, tugs, barges and recovery vessels.

64,748 gallons of dispersant have been deployed and an additional 110,960 gallons are available.

Five staging areas are in place and ready to protect sensitive shorelines. These areas include:

Biloxi, Miss., Pensacola, Fla. Venice, La., Pascagoula, Miss., and Theodore, Ala.

Same here. I heard today, on the radio (i stated this earlier) It could take up to 90 days to plug the well.

The response to BP/Transocean’s Deepwater Horizon incident continues as responders have scheduled a controlled, on-location burn to begin at approximately 11 a.m. CDT today—a strategy designed to minimize environmental risks by removing large quantities of oil in the Gulf of Mexico following the April 20 explosion.

Part of a coordinated response combining tactics deployed above water, below water, dozens of miles offshore, as well as closer to coastal areas, today’s controlled burn will remove oil from the open water in an effort to protect shoreline and marine and other wildlife.

Workboats will consolidate oil into a fire resistant boom approximately 500 feet long. This oil will then be towed to a more remote area, where it will be ignited and burned in a controlled manner. The plan calls for small, controlled burns of several thousand gallons of oil lasting approximately one hour each.

ETA: Oil companies know the risk. They don't need some person to threaten them with a lawsuit to react.

Agreed, and this is the only relevant thing that should be discussed.

Not some silly notion that, if only the evil oil companies had more fear of lawsuits, they might work harder to clean this up.

I understand that they are doing everything imaginable to stop this. I'm not making those claims.

I'm getting really concerned. We need a lot of luck right now.

We can put a man on the moon but we cannot plug a leak???

It's not my job to solve the problem. The Billion Dollar Oil Companies caused the mess that is about to give the Gulf Coast the worst Oil Spill disaster the world has ever seen. And they are not ready or know how to solve it. That's not good enough for me and it should not be for anyone else.

They shouldnt do it if they cant prevent this kind of thing from happening and if it does be able to stop it.

What they are doing now is the same as saying your sorry after you cheat on your spouse. Its doesnt cut the mustard.
