Deep water rigs that are not leaving the gulf

I am assuming that companies are that are not planning on shipping rigs overseas are using this downtime to have the rigs worked/repaired.
In Mobile, there is a drill ship on a dry dock and a smaller semi-submersible at port also. I am assuming alot of the larger shipyards back in Louisiana, Mississippi as well as east Texas are also getting alot of this work also??

Or may be refitting to ship overseas.

I can imagine that is certainly a possibility.

Yeah I wish more info would come out on what is going on. Supposedly days after the moratorium was in effect 3 rigs left to go overseas. Now I hear nothing about the rig situation.

Diamond is moving all or most of there Deepwater floaters to Brail and Africa and some of the smaller rigs have been cold stacked already.
People in New Iberia wondering what the hell they gonna do for the next couple of years.

Service Company been hearing for a few weeks sine the Obamanitor Morontorium.
Already cancled work for the ones going in to dock for cold stack they are lining up the rest to move.
That will include a lot of the onboard jobs they have to hire certain number of the nationls and the support service is not going to come from here.

I think the admins should start an active ticker of the amount of rigs leaving

Where are you getting this information. From what I understand as of Sunday there has only been 3 declared force majeur.
this moratorium will go far beyond 6 months. The commission that Obama has assembled doesn't even meet until the end if July and wont make a decision for until later this year. Everyone on that commission is already against drilling.

Then after the commission delivers it's report at the end of the 6 month period Congress has to make new rules and regs. I've read several reports that say that will take another year to year and a half.
I'm glad the feds are interested in creating and preserving jobs in the US economy.

Your list is a little misleading. There are only 33 deepwater rigs in the GOM. I'm not sure how many of these rigs that you listed are deepwater and which are not but by looking at the blocks not many of them seem to be "deepwater" rigs. Jackup's are not deepwater rigs. So not all of these rigs that you listed will be leaving and none of these have left as of today.

Those rigs in Mobile were already scheduled to be there.
There isn't a lot of repairs needed to these deepwater now. Some have taken the time to perform the ABS 5 year survey a little early.
There aren't any large shipyards in La. or east Texas that can handle these MODU's Once the thrusters are installed, the rigs can't really go into a port anymore in the US.

i noticed that transocean marianas is in Mobile bay and has been for about a month, it is anchored at the mouth of theodore canal. I'm guessing its waiting to get some kind of work done on it, i fished it last year off the LA coast.

Not a rig but definitely related to the moratorium. My uncle is a relief captain on one of Edison Chouest's 220' OSV's. His boat is being tied up and the crew will be dispersed throughout the fleet. He feels lay offs are coming very soon.

Force majeure is being used in some cases by the operators to renegotiate the day rates and contracts with the rig company. I know of atleast one of the rigs where this is the case. The rig is going to wait the moratorium out at a reduced day rate. It will be interesting to see how this plays out.

Right, those 33 are owned as follows:
o Shell 7 Rigs
o Chevron 4 Rigs
o Anadarko 3 Rigs
o Marathon 2 Rigs
o Noble Energy 2 Rigs
o Eni US 2 Rigs
o ATP Oil & Gas 2 Rigs
o Statoil 2 Rigs
o ExxonMobil 1 Rig
o Petrobras America 1 Rig
o BHP 1 Rig
o BP 1 Rig
o Kerr McGee 1 Rig
o Murphy 1 Rig
o LLOG 1 Rig
o Newfield 1 Rig
o Hess 1 Rig
As far as info on force majur goes check out www.rigzone.com they seem to be up to date on who has called FM and who is about to.
Also, if you can afford it the Rigdata stuff is pretty tight.

This is what my work Dbase has.....I picked March 2010 comparison to March 2009 (Pre-blowout) and then again Jul 2010 compared to Jul 2009.
Current Rig Count Vs. Same Period Last Year
3/27/10 3/27/09
Total Rigs Drilling 54 52
Total Rigs Working 93 80
Rigs Working in Water > 1000 ft 45 38
Rigs Working in Water > 1500 ft 43 36
Rigs Working in Water > 5000 ft 16 11
7/3/10 7/4/09
Total Rigs Drilling 22 33
Total Rigs Working 56 60
Rigs Working in Water > 1000 ft 17 33
Rigs Working in Water > 1500 ft 17 30
Rigs Working in Water > 5000 ft 6 13
What this shows is that the "drilling" rig count went from 52 to 33 during this time last year (due to the advent of hurricanne season?) and it went from 54 to 22 this year (thus far). Total rigs (including WO/ST/etc) went from 80 to 60 and 93 to 56.
Just sharing the information, you can draw your own conclusions.
