Dont plan on the happening soon. The only activity has been at LUMCON with the Pelican going out for scheduled research trips (booked months in advance). They are leaving again tonight at midnight.

the news today said BP intended to somehow constrict the flow and GRADUALLY increase it over the next couple of days.

I am hopeful they are under-promising so they can over deliver.
But it's only a hope....

Not trying to detract from the intent of this post, but successful is misspelled in the title.

Glad some progress is being made, but the Navy would have done this weeks ago if they were put in charge.

tylercsbn9, I think you need to go bow to Tony Heyward, and tell him "Tony, you're doing a great job. Keep up the good work."

I think you need to get a brain because you actually think the navy could do a better job than a company that actually works in the industry. Once again....what exactly would the Navy do in your genius plan that a company that has expertise in the field can't do? Has the govt. ever show any ability to solve big problems like this? Maybe we should just put Obama in charge since all corporations are EVIL. He'll know what to do.

The Navy is already involved.

Right, but I doubt they are involved in a large capacity. They aren't (and should not) be the ones figuring out how to plug of the leaks. They don't have the skill set for that. I assume they are just helping with containing/clean up like many other boats that are being utilized in that capacity.

well it's what she said

The Navy has some of the most well trained underwater salvage technicians, robotic operators, advanced robotics and have limitless resources and think tanks involved in what they do at a higher level.
If the Navy committed the resources to the project they have the people who dream things up and more than enough skill to solve this problem.
But once they take responsibility to fix, they are also responsible for failure. The government and Obama would rather be able to blame the oil industry than for the government to take accountability and take the heat for this.

This is BPs disaster and BP should be leading the charge in getting it sealed. However I do think govt intervention is needed now to allow scientists to better study what is going on.

The government is involved heavily into what is happening with every aspect.
BP is the lead and the focal point for disseminating information. There is a lot of info that is not being released to the public and it is not just BP that is holding this information back.

I did not want the NAVY involved because of a possible political gain. I dont care who is in charge. I wanted every possible resource to be used to minimize the impact.
