Several reports out now that say that turtles have been washing up for a month or more. Also that none of the 20 had oil on them. Some conjecture that it could be related to the early opening to the offshore shrimp season that was allowed to let the shrimpers to try and harvest as much as they could prior to closures or other shutdowns. Suspect that many of the posters pointing the finger at BP don't know what a TED is or why they are required.

Did anyone actually read the article?

It clearly said that (unfortunately) sea turtles often beach themselves and wash ashore in these numbers this time of year.

If the oil was the cause, then damn those involved. But the article clearly states the cause is unknown and the event not uncommon.

But wouldn't it be more productive to panic and immediately jump to conclusions based out of sheer ignorance?

How much money is a sea turtle's life worth? We need to tack this on BP's bill.

My PaPa, in Kaplan, Louisiana, used to walk along the side of the highway, looking for turtles. He'd sneak up behind them and chop their heads off, then MaMa would make turtle soup.

Delicious.

The reality is that I and others do realize how much production, refining, and sales is swapped around as well as that BP has its hand on many products that do not hold a BP label. But, one does what one can and avoiding the BP stations does affect part of their business - a very visible and easily reported on part. I believe that it will be significant enough to send the message that their behavior is is not tolerated.
Totally right. For those who bother to google BP, you can find they have stock on the stock market. Plus ownership interests in ARCO, Castrol, and a few other odd corporations. Not to mention BP products as an additive to a gazillion things we probably never dreamed of.

We can absolutely send a message and boycott their visible BP things and sell any BP stock we may own. Small potatoes, but if enough people do this, it might get the point across: For the sake of the Gulf of Mexico, everyone and everything living around it or in it, we're pissed!

they always taught us that, if we fall off the rig, take your hard hat off and throw it as far away as you can so that the sea turtles don't come and frick your brains out. it's a joke.

Actually it would be nice if you had the ability to get a critical mass to sell their BP stock. I would love to buy BP at a significant discount.

The sad thing is that hippies and their ilk aren't exactly into trading on the ole exchange.

Regardless, I say boycott BP, after all oil is not a fungible commodity.
