And they've had a little rockfall problem already this week.

I’ve been there a couple of times. It’s not surprising that they have issues with flash flooding. It’s pretty narrow in places and it’s a bunch of sandstone. There’s nowhere for the water to go.

Every year people hike the Narrows and if a flash flood comes up and fills the canyon, people can die, because the canyon walls are mostly slick with little to no hand holds. It’s a risky proposition

I took a hike up that canyon on one of my last trips out west - went in a couple of miles and began to think of = what if a big rainstorm comes up.
in between two vertical walls about 10 ft apart in water up to calves already - it would be impossible to beat any kind of 'flood' coming down.
Have to rely on their forecasting before venturing into that = but it was beautiful.

Yellowstone is a great national park. It is beautiful, immense, wild and, in places, smells like Satan boiled an egg in a sewer. This is the principal reason it does not make my top 10.
I understand the geological significance. Yellowstone Falls and Lamar Valley are breathtaking. I admire Old Faithful. The bison are magnificent. But I did not travel halfway across America to have my nostrils assaulted by sulfurous vapors emanating from the bowels of the earth. After a few hours in Yellowstone, the morning-after-Mardi-Gras bouquet of Bourbon Street begins to smell like a freshly baked baguette.
Beauty matters. So does breathing.
