have you even watched tonys quote? at all. he points out that the travel coaches need to be talking about making the kids better people not trying to sell them on winning rings.
if you are with a good team and org....thats exactly what they do.
also tony has been dead a couple years now...and yet he still pretty much only recruited kids that played travel ball.....but hey nothing like a hypocrite right?

You’re wasting your time 777.
Every single person who has ever been involved in travel ball is exactly like the OT’s worst (best) stereotype of travel ball people. It’s riddled with trash and tryhards and kids with incredibly stupid names. Nothing good ever comes out of it. No sense in arguing about it man they got it all figured out

The same beef Tony Robichaux has in the video I posted. Did he stutter homeboy?

Comment has nothing to do with what I said further proving your ignorance. My kids aren’t old enough for any sport, but if they want to play something then great. If they don’t, that’s fine too. But they’ll have a hobby and that hobby will cost money, which was the whole point of this thread in the beginning.
If you even played a sport growing up, are you saying you would take back that time you had with friends and making memories because your parents had to travel on weekends and spend all this money for something you never made a career with?

What’s your experience been like with travel ball? Coach a team? Have a kid that plays? Did you play?
Let’s see if you can grow up long enough to answer that

Soccer tryouts for the travel team are today in Lake Charles.
There's no way my daughter would be denied the opportunity to participate. Personally, I think U11 is a little premature. She's been playing since six and has always been the best player on her team in rec in both Sulphur and LC. She's starving for the competition.
I was the same way in my own childhood so why would I deny the same opportunity my dad gave me in baseball. Looking back travel ball (ages 12 to 18) formed many great memories and life lessons. Additionally, I played at a college level and competitively until 25, the age I met my wife and grew up.

his beef is he wants things to be like the 80s and 90s again. he wants to be able to go to the camp and be an absentee dad while his kid plays rec for free and still have his son make the high school team.
doesnt work like that.
CP....sorry your kid didnt make the team bro.
all joking asie...whyt eh frick would the ot have a problem with the following
-kids exercising
-kids playing a sport they love
-kids learning that hard work=success

All for kids playing sports, but travel ball and pay to play "National Championships" and "World Series" are a joke.
"Travel Ball" has ruined local sports and really even high school baseball and softball to some extent. Kids think their travel teams are more important than the ones that should be building relationships and representing their communities.
And I blame parents 10000000% for creating this monster.

Why in god's name would any functioning adult actively want to put themselves through the stress of all the travel when they could just go down to the local ballpark?
I think because many of them secretly love it. Not for the baseball aspect but for the social aspect. They hang out with the other parents at the hotel and drink beer & wine all evening.

This is a valid criticism of travel ball.. 100% agree with this. I’ve seen kids not pitch for their HS team because they had a tournament coming up or just passed.
This is something that does need to be addressed, good point

most of yall are so delusional on these things. Thats ok, just dont bitch in a couple years when your kid cant even make the high school team.
See, this is where travel ball has been a net negative I think.
You almost have to do it to keep the kid from falling behind, unless the kid is an exceptional athlete.
So this means you have thousands of families dedicating their weekends and money to something that’s only necessary because so many other people are doing the same thing.
And in the end, if high school baseball is played at a higher level overall, what difference does that really make?
I realize some people enjoy it and it isn’t going away, but it really is insane to work all week and then be dragged around to baseball tournaments on the weekend. We do it too, but it’s insane.

i know but shite gets old.
like if someone came with a real arguement then I would acknowledge it.
the OT though assumes all these wrong things
- travel means leaving the state(99% of tournaments are within an hour drive)
- kids play year around...they dont. they play fall and then break and then play spring and brake for summer
- kids dont play other sports...they do until atleast HS. at 16 you should specialize anyways for the most part.
- it cost a ton of money...shite is less than 2k for almost every org in louisiana with a few exceptions. most tournaments are within driving distance
- every kid has a name that ends in xton.
- kids only play because their parents push them
- kids can make a HS team playing rec...how the frick they gonan do that when there arent even leagues for 13 & 14 year olds.
- taking a few buckets with dad once a week is suffecient practice
in the end these threads always turn into...."im not giving up my time at the camp" or "im not missing hunting and fishing" and in the end....that is what it is about. selfish parents of the OT pissed because their kid is getting left behind.

That shite would not fly where I live. It’s ALL about s hook ball. Of course everyone who plays varsity and JV play travel…but that’s just to make the HS teams.

i dont have a kid playing travel ball, nor do i have a boy.
but the holier than thou asses in this thread banging on parents for having their kids play sports, whilst probably just leaving their kids at home playing on ipads and video games, need to take a lap.
i find travel ball to be over the top, but if my kid loves to do something that much, then i would support them doing it.

FWIW this is a legit thing to bitch about. If I was coaching a high school team that shite wouldn’t fly

I have not seen this as most of the schools here in LC have their own travel team and dont play until season is over. but if this is happening...then it 100% is an issue.
but i also get it, because many times you live in a community that has terrible coaching and overall program. Unfortunately we have adults that think they own a player too because they live in a certain district and without school choice you are going to see this some.
I dont agree with it though and have not seen that. I thought the high school age teams didnt play until june.

My son goes to an all-boys school where the coaches ARE the teachers…the fricking soccer coach, teaching you science for example…all the coaches/teachers would give you hell until you quit or left the school.
My son doesn’t really want to play soccer or run track…but there’s literally no way not to do it. They don’t even ask.
He’d rather just do this:
