It is a little big for him, that’s the point. But my theory is that it’s making him get stronger and having to really focus on using all his muscles to find his balance and power.

Just my opinion, I whole heartedly disagree.

Did you play ball? If you were good, what did you do at that age?

I think a thing we struggle with as fathers is pushing things too fast.

7 years old is not about power and using his muscles, it’s about developing form and swinging a bat that he’s capable of hitting the ball with.

You do you tho, that’s just me

First off, never buy your kid a fricking bat. Let the other parents be those idiots

We all grew up with a “team bat.” Somewhere between me being a kid and present day it was decided every kids brings their own bat and helmet. Nuts, I know.

lol no I didn’t. OP clearly states I already bought the bat, found the discussion interesting, and wanted to see what others here thought.

2nd, the hell you talking about swing speed and size for a 7 year old?
Because he hasn't opened a 529 for the kid yet.

but I would go as short as needed for him to be able to comfortably swing with proper form.

His form is a work in progress but he’s come a long way since the beginning of Spring. The bat size doesn’t totally dismantle his swing, it just makes him work more and yes sometimes he does get a little off balanced with it but most of the time he’s good.

I took my son Slyder to Colt LeBlanc in Houma to get his bats shaved. Worth every penny.

Weight to height isn’t at proper ratio. Junior will never make it to the show.

Find him a nice tap dance team to join

Bat speed>bat pop. My son swung a 25/15 when he was 7 and finished the season with a 26/16. He will always be one of the smaller players on any team. I watched people spend $300 on Cat 9s for 7 year olds and they couldn’t get it off their shoulder. If the bat is too heavy they’ll just develop bad mechanics. These kids are so weak at that age that the difference between a walmart bat and the $400 bat is about 10ft in distance.

Biggest mistake is always too much bat.

Of course you don’t want too big, but I think people have gone too far in the other direction insisting on a “light” bat that maximizes the kid’s current production. God forbid a young kid be challenged physically.

It’s not a physical challenge contest bro. Do the physical training and conditioning at home. At the field you want them to be most successful. I’ve been there and made such same mistakes already. Learn.

There ain’t no bigger fan of next size bat training than me too. But he’s 7 and bigger bat training is for the cage.

The thought of getting my 7 year old to consistently participate in a “training” program is hilarious. I know some kids do it, but they’re rare. Using a bigger bat hits two birds with one stone: skills work + strength training.

Any theory on why all the bat size guides you can find online, which I’m sure haven’t changed in 30+ years, suggest a larger bat than most baseball dads online?

I’m suggesting a bigger barrel along with a shorter inch. Weight is a wash.
