Miami Heat player, Myers Leonard, chose to stand during the playing of the National Anthem instead of joining his teammates as they took a knee. He was praised on many news outlets for having the courage to follow his heart. His teammates expressed support for his decision, as well.
What is wrong with this picture?

Absolutely nothing is wrong with it! This is America! One should have the right to express his opinion and just because it doesn't fit in another's narrative doesn't make it wrong.
If only Drew Brees were given that same sentiment..his so-called friends turned on him for his beliefs. Some friends, heh? Should've been in the NBA & screw the Saints!

Is he in the wrong sport,or is of the wrong race to voice an opinion?

Should’ve been in the NBA? You forgot that Comrade LeBitch was one of the first to call him out on Twitter.

Drew should have owned his opinion instead of crawfishing and trying to pander to those who disagreed. You aren’t wrong about his teammates and others throwing him under the bus, but he should have never backed down or flip flopped. He’s just Seen as a a big pussy now.

If Drew's peers respected him as a man, they'd have at least been quiet about it. They knew he'd bitch out.

we are now at a place in this country where people have to explain why they stand for the national anthem.

that's pretty sad.

No, the problem is Drew is white

White and stand = racist

Black and stand = brave

Most of the Saints are probably going to kneel when they come back. Drew won’t be one of them.

i can understand a guy who is not as financially well off caving, but Brees and his kids are set for life. He didn't have to tuck his tail and roll over. He said nothing wrong.

Drew said last night that he's standing for the anthem and respects the opinion of others that do not. Good for him.

Didn't he just contribute $15 million to help fund public health care centers around the state?

No one reading this thread is subject to public scrutiny of their every view on any topic, or have the resources to contribute to worthy causes and try to make a difference than Brees does.

Brees doesn't have to prove anything to me.

Never thought I'd live long enough to see standing for the anthem be a brave and courageous, newsworthy event.

It's a classic "if you try to please everyone, you please no-one" situation.

If I had to bet I think he caved because of all his current and future business ventures. Even though he's got more money than he could probably ever spend, he's going to make a lot more after he retires. Not that I think its right.. he should have told them to frick off. Especially his "teammates" that stabbed him in the back.

In order for Drew to do his job is more important for him to be on good terms with his teammates than it is for him to be in agreement with a certain percentage of his fan base (especially if the spending habits of his fan base aren't really likely to change). Sucks that his teammates are that shallow, but, when you play football for a living you're not going to be surrounded by genius.

I'm not going to post a "The gender pay gap is a myth that's entirely do to personal choice" article on my office door when I work with female engineers. That's what the OT is for.
