This is not my area of expertise, but from what I have always heard from my buddies that went through med school, once you got in you should be able to hack it

He got into med school based on connections.

I bet if you hadn’t paid for his medical school and he took out loans like everyone else he wouldn’t have failed out

Reality - once he is in, it is definitely an effort thing if he fails out. It sounds like you have already gone the route of hand holding (not that there's anything wrong with that). Time to let him do it on his own.

You have done more than enough up to now. It's time to let him find his own path and if he needs your help he can always ask for it.

Just love them. He'll figure it out. You did your part. My son has failed at everything so far except the Air Force. I got him a job in Alaska in the oilfield and he loves it.
Tell him to get a trade.

You have to go to nursing school first to become a CRNA.

True, he should have most of the undergrad work done, but it' would still be another 2 years.

Yep and then work for a couple of years as in ICU nurse before even getting into a CRNA school.

Obtuse’s idea about medical device sales rep opportunities is a really good idea if he really had his heart set on medicine. Or going the other route into the administrative side of medicine. Not everyone is cut out for medical school - not sure more school is the answer for him. Im sure he is going to find his place! I would keep supporting him but not by sending him ( and paying for ) more school at this point.

How is someone capable of paying 100’s of thousands of dollars in tuition and expenses incapable of making this decision?

Excellent choice. About 30 months program. Can make 200K in Cali easy.

Medical device reps generally make a little more money due to their commission structure and they often get to work in the OR helping and guiding the surgeons using their wares. This may be a significant upside for someone that wanted to be a doc.

Agreed. Med device or capital equipment is where it’s at if he has a desire to go into sales. Downside is you’re always a territory or comp plan change away from losing it and having to start over. And all the failed pharma idiots/bimbos/managers are starting to infect the device world and bringing their stupid policies with them.

PA school is a great program for someone in this situation and he should thrive in that program based on his education so far. he would be way ahead of the curve. anytime my boys did the absolute best they could i would be there for them in times like this. sure they are being hard enough on themselves without their parents piling on them and adding stress to situtation by not being supportive. there are too many people that love seeing people fail when trying to better themselves, the parents dont need to be on that list.

He can tell you what type of job he would like, and I would help him find the first one. Heck, helping him find a job is a lot easier than what you’ve been doing.
But then that’s it, he’s on his own. Even if another shot at med school, he should do it by himself, money and all.
