You point him to a related job like being a pharmaceutical sales rep

Have you thought about just asking him rather than a bunch of terminally online degenerates on the OT?

Not a kid anymore. Your time and money, so you do you, but he needs to get a job and his own place even if the job isn't exactly what he wants to do. He's young enough to do just about anything for a little bit.

Medical device reps generally make a little more money due to their commission structure and they often get to work in the OR helping and guiding the surgeons using their wares. This may be a significant upside for someone that wanted to be a doc. The medical background will likely help them more directly with device sales than pharma sales.

He's your kid and this is the most important moment in his life. If you aren't helping him now, you're a piece of shite.

I would absolutely be supportive of him. Perhaps if he had more skin in the game he would find more success in future endeavors. The most accomplished people I know didn’t get to where they are due to a favor called in by someone else. Sometimes hard knocks and bumps in the road are the best teacher. Best of luck to him.

So... Now do you continue to call in favors for him with your professional friends and try to get him a job that he may or may not want/like, or do you let him taste the full force of the real world and start from scratch at his first real job and earn every interview he will get in the next 4-6 mo. while he is given a 'look' period.

He's your kid. Level exams aren't a particularly difficult thing for med students. I suspect his private school education and med school admission came from connections, right? He might not have had the intelligence to benefit from those particular connections, but if you have the ability to help place him in a career, do it. I'm sure he's a great guy who can be successful in a less memory-centric field.

You have already sent him and paid for the best undergrad (private) college he could get into. Footed the whole bill, room and board, etc.

Sounds like you I might have done too much for him.
