re: Your job/career. Love it, like it, tolerate it, hate it?

But I work to live. I don't live to work.
I firmly believe that you don't have to love your job to live a happy life. You just can't LOATHE your job.
That shite's not sustainable.
This is the truth right here. I used to have a job that I LOATHED but it was managerial and I made good money, so I tolerated it.
After a few years of it leaking into the rest of my life, beginning to only live FOR work, and being miserable, I made the change to a less stressful, more enjoyable, and slightly less paying career. I always thought the monetary difference would make me equally stressed because money would be tighter, but boy was I wrong.
I wish I would've made the change sooner. I went from a high stress, 60+ hour per week managerial desk job to a US Marshal that's always on the go, often doing fairly exciting things.
Taking the plunge and just doing it is easily the best decision I've ever made in life, and I cannot stress that enough to anyone that's stuck in a similar position that I was. Don't hesitate to do something you'd enjoy more, even if its less money. You only live once and there's no reason to ruin that life over a little more money.

That's where I am...just trying to figure out what I want to do instead.
Lots of people consider police and fire, but there are other government agencies that don't get much attention that always need people. DEA, DHS, US Marshals, Park Rangers, parole officers, etc. that don't get the "attention" other careers get.
Your retirement and benefits can't be beat, and a lot of them are easier to get into than most think. Just think outside the police, fire, and Game & Fish jobs because those are extremely sought after and do the research on how to become the one that best suits you.
Like I said in a previous post, if you don't enjoy being behind a desk all day then you can't get any better. Best decision I've ever made.

I like it as far as a job goes. I wouldn’t do it if they didn’t pay me.

Literally just apply on your state government's website. They usually do mass-hiring and training that's yearly or twice a year.
For mine I saw that the 2016 recruiting was open on their website, I applied and they sent me a test in my email, I completed the test and got called in for an interview. After that, the group of 20 or so candidates that passed took a personality test and then went into that year's training course.
We were the "class of 2016" that then went on to basically shadow another Marshal for a month until we were given free reign. I don't know if that's EXACTLY what the rangers would do, but from what I've seen/heard all government agencies with employees in the field basically do the same.
It should be noted that I went to college but had zero prior experience in law enforcement. They just need good people with good work ethics, something the current crop of millenials is lacking.

love every single day because it's never repetitive. work in a fast paced, well paying and creative industry where our work is seen by millions world wide (not always a good thing).
What do you do?

I am 43 and do real estate field appraisals.
I think it's fricking bullshite.
