In 1985, LJN start selling a line of water guns, starting with the Water Hawk, branded as Entertech. It surprised all of my friends. Not only were they battery-powered motorized water guns, but they also eschewed the more colorful designs of most water guns. No, the water guns were not only sculpted to look realistic, they were also matte black to make them even more closely resemble a real gun.
At the time, there were a series of heavily publicized shootings of children who were carrying realistic looking toy guns, so this was a controversial choice. So while many safety and parenting groups were speaking out against them, my friends and I desperately wanted one.

The Entertech line was terminated in 1990, right around the time of the Super Soaker phenomenon taking hold in the U.S.

We had pellet guns, not water guns.

That’s a literal blast from the past. I had a friend down the street that had one. We were all jealous.
I didn’t know they were made by LJN, though. They made better water guns than video games, that’s for sure.

In 7th grade me and a bunch of boys decided to have a water gun war at school. One of the kids had one of these guns…he smoked the rest of us.
This was 1987. Completely different time. We would have been expelled now-a-days.

Two tools for two different jobs.
Pellet guns were for shooting wildlife, streetlights, and friends at a distance.
Entertech was for close combat/shooting stinging streams of water at people in the face.

LJN only briefly made games before problems with Enertech and Gotcha product lines forced them into bankruptcy.
Most of the shitty games were released when they were a shell company for Acclaim, serving as the shitty version of Konami’s Ultra Games.

I was a teenager when they came out. We shot each other with 410's with the shot removed.
