BAN ALCOHOL amirite!!!?

If advancements in technology make it possible to get to a point where driver alcohol detection is a minor incovenience like a seatbelt, would you be for it?

You're right. Better to do nothing at all.

Well, vehicular homicide is already a crime, so we have been “doing something” about it forever.

I love the idea, but I am confused about the consequences though. How are these offenders going to generate income from prison? They need to be in prison, first and foremost.

Good point. Society would be better off if drunk drivers who end up killing someone were simply put up against a wall and shot.

I’d be fine with life in prison for drunk driving. There’s absolutely no excuse in 2024/2025

Actually the better option would be to not put them and jail and force them to pay financial restitution in some form or fashion to the agreived party. If they can’t afford to pay then indentured servitude will also be acceptable.

How will they pay child support while spending a couple decades in the pen?

Yet I'd bet at least 90% of the OT has driven drunk at least 1x in their life, and I'd venture to say 35%+ have a DUI or DWI on their record

Perhaps they could just impose the death penalty,

Why shouldn’t we impose the death penalty on someone who drinks and drives and kills another human?

So no criminal penalties whatsoever, you’re aware the civil system exists right?

Let’s just let them kill at will. fricking idiots on this board

Now post something more relative like how many here have killed a child's parent while drinking and driving.

And you completely missed that most people never pay court ordered restitution. Court ordered child support ring a bell? Deadbeats always gonna deadbeat . Lock them up.

I'm willing to bet that the same demographic already has issues paying their own personal child support and finances.

Might become a real headache when you have the occasional 18-21 y/o now on the hook for a paying 16 years of child support for a 2 y/o.

And what about all the parents that are murdered in home invasion, robbings, car jacking.

Not sure if this is relevant to the topic or not but it seems like similar laws will only hurt the middle class even more. Poor will stay poor, rich will stay rich. Middles class will be stuck with the most headaches.

that's a whole 'nuther can of worms, and usually the deadbeats are the moms collecting the child support and spend exactly zero of it on what it's intended for, the children

I actually think my system of indentured servitude or slavery is harsher than getting 3 hots and a cot for drinking and driving. Nearly everyone on this board has drank and drove at some point in their lives. I’d conservatively estimate less than %5 of this board is completely innocent of ever committing this crime. Maybe some of the younger crown who’s had access to Uber or Lyft for most their adult life but anyone over 35 has most likely committed this crime.

If we’re gonna kill people or imprison them for life for DWI then we should do the same for cell phone use and driving. It’s just as dangerous as DWI. In fact, every time there is a car crash I think the police should automatically confiscate the driver’s phone to seen when it was last being used. I’m sure there are ways to differentiate between the phone being in hands free mode and being physically manipulated.

You don't get the point do you lol. Those who drove drunk, which I'd bet at least 90% here have done at bare minimum 1x in their life, just got lucky. The people who did kill a parent were just the unlucky ones.

There is a degree of hypocrisy seeing that 98 to 1 upvote to downvote ratio, when I know damn well of those 98 upvotes, probably 85 to 90 have driven drunk at least once in their life, and I'd be willing to be 25 of them have gotten a DUI. They were just lucky in not killing anyone.

Why wait till they kill someone. We should have squads of vigilantes waiting outside bars just popping everyone that tries to get in a car in my opinion.

You're just spouting anecdotal statistics and unfounded predictions that amount to nonsense. This law only applies to those who kill a child's parent while driving under influence. No one got lucky, they just never murdered anyone with vehicle, which is what this is all about.
