Know you now don't have to ever worry about what to get her for her birthday or Christmas for....the rest of your life

Consider it a burned bridge and at least know you don't ever have to feel guilty for telling her a big fat NO next time she ever asks for help.

Honest answer...

Tell her you're in big to Mexican Cartel guys and you need 20 grand just to pay them back and live. Tell your sister they have surveillance on her and your Brother-in-law, Troy's' house. Ask her if she can loan you the money.

Never loan money to family with the expectation that it’ll make it back to you. That’s your first mistake.

Next time, simply say no.

Don’t mix money or business with family or close friends. It never ends well.

I don't lend money to people that I expect to see back. Just be proud of yourself for investing some money in your nephew's future.

Me, too, especially after the appearance of the new truck. If it damages your relationship with your sister, so be it. There’s an obvious lack of respect for them to do this right in your face.

You do what I have always done. You chalk it up as a loss. And you contemplate the destructive psychology that losers have where they not only aren’t grateful but they actually resent you if you help them.

People usually don’t get paid back when lending money to family and friends. Not that it’s right but it happens a lot.

Never lend money to family if you aren't alright with either losing it or losing your relationship with them.

Did they need a new vehicle? Did they need to pass their old vehicle down to your nephew because he needs it for work/school? Frankly you loaned the money for your nephew's education and need to consider that when looking at the situation.

That said, perhaps they used their stimulus check as a down payment. Perhaps they used it to pay down credit cards. Or perhaps they only traded in a vehicle as downpayment for a new one with payments they can now afford by not carrying a balance on a few of their paid down/off cards.

Take it as a learning lesson and try to minimize any lasting damage to your relationship with them. It may not be right but again this potential situation should have informed your decision making at the time you handed over the money.

I would shake down the nephew. See what falls out of his pockets. Maybe french kiss his girlfriend. 5 points a week and I don't like to come looking for it if you know what I mean.

Your first mistake was lending money to anyone, especially family.
