Fundraising for sports has always been a thing. Back in the day tho we did stuff for the money. Car wash’s, bench press pounds, chicken dinners, etc.

Exactly. The committee took care of finding sponsors for the teams. I am pretty sure I was on the Liberty Nationals for a number of years and the Piggly Wiggly Astros or something for a while.

We washed cars, had catfish dinners, spaghetti dinners.. whatever it was. But it was good food in exchange for a few bucks, not being tasked to raise $1000.

Also, it grinds my gears more when a grown adult is asking his co workers to support his hobby.

Some asshat at work had the nerve to walk around selling raffle tickets to fund his bass fishing tournaments. I’m like, aren’t you like 45?

My neighbor did a big local and church fundraiser to adopt a kid..

Traded his Tahoe in for a new infinity suv week before they picked up the new child. He is a lawyer .. he needed a bigger vehicle.. so he said ..

Hate it. It's tacky. I'm not paying for your family to go on vacation. If you can't afford travel ball, then play rec instead. Brayson/Braylon/Brayden will be fine.

Not seeing more and more of it. It’s been going on at the same rate for at least 15 years. It is pretty obnoxious.

I have a co-worker whose daughter recently made her high school cheer team. A couple weeks later in a group message to several co-workers she sends a link to a donation page to help pay for the stuff she needs for the cheer team. Not competition cheer, not travel ball. I was shocked. I get sending it to grandma but to co-workers?! I’ll happily pay for a catfish dinner or a raffle but just straight up solicitation of money was an easy no for me.

My granddaughter did her own fundraising for debate state and national finals.

She raised over $1,000 at a speech to the Rotary club yesterday, she also bakes pastries and sells, usually profits over $400 every time.

Very proud of her willingness to take on the responsibility,

# 1 - Do yourself a favor and get off of Facebook.

# 2 - Yeah, I see the begging for Briyxleigh, too. We have gotten it in person lately. Was awkward & funny. Woman asked us to help pay for her kids competitive cheer camp vaca/competition in Orlando. We said no, our extracurricular budget pays for our kids’ activities.

People are shameless. Back in the day, we cut grass and had a spaghetti dinner to pay for our group or team trips.

My nephew started playing travel ball and holy shite it’s expensive. For me and three other people to get into a game was $50 friggin’ dollars. Insane

I 100% agree. Examples:

My neighbor's daughter came by a couple of weeks ago. I haven't seen her in about 5 years. I didn't even know who she was. She said her mother sent her around the neighborhood to ask for donations to her cheer leading camp. WTF, its not like they don't have plenty of money.

Got a card in the mail from the grandson of an old friend asking to contribute to some sort of fund for his sport activities. Haven't seen this kid in 10+ years. They too have $.

Just received a card from my cousin's grandson who lives 2,500 miles away announcing his graduation from high school subtly asking for a gift or donation. I've briefly seen him maybe 4 or five time in his life.

Never have I ever asked for donations for my kids. I wonder why these kids are so entitled today.

I agree with this. I have no problem if teams are selling things such as jambalaya plates or popcorn, etc. That’s OK. But just flat out asking for money so your kid can go on a trip or play a sport. No. Pay for your damn kid or find something else to do. You see parents posting all the time about such and such is going on a trip to Europe and would like all the help they can get. How about they go get a damn job. Why should everyone else pay for your child to go visit Washington or Europe or Germany. You pay for it your damn self

Doesn't bother me at all. If I can help fund a loved one being able to play sports, why not assist?

Why not try? Instead of just telling your child no.

I just recently had someone we know collecting money for a treatment for their rare neuroglial disorder, which was real.

But then... she posted photos from their tropical vacation.

The wife does mandatory fund raisers for my Stepsons Football team. I hate the shite with a passion. It feels almost like begging or something, I tell my mom and sisters and that's it, done! And it's a must your child has to participate no matter what. The last one was sponsor my kid in a liftathon and that's for 3 lifts bench, deadlines, and squats. I had to tell several family members just bc hes a freshman dont sponsor $1 lb. His bench is 285 deadlift is 525 squats 405.
It was for a New axiom helmet. He had a speed flex but had to raise 1k if they wanted the new helmet.
In general fundraising sucks arse

I do agree it helps kids and family's out and most are mandatory to participate in for the team. Personally for me to physically and actively participate in the fundraising sucks, it just feels like begging
