Well that lets you know the test is BS, because they're the exact same thing. One shouldn't outperform the other.

I have a Yeti 20 oz. tumbler that I use pretty much every day for hot/cold beverages.
I’ve been gifted a few Yeti products.
They’re all good quality.
I would care more if I hunted unsupported for weeks in the Winter in outback Alaska.

I have a yeti cup that I literally use and have with me at all times (almost). The $30 or so has been well worth it

I knew somebody would say that. If I was drinking shitty beer in white cans I'd probably guzzle them. I like heavier stuff like IPAs that are too filling to guzzle like a gotdang savage.

They actually do provide some lube with their Soft coolers.

Would a cheaper brand do the same thing?
Actually the thermos brand with the lid that opens and closes is much much better than a Yeti with the clear plastic lid for HOT drinks... coffee. Heat rises so heat is coming out of the Yeti continuously. Close the Thermos lid and heat is trapped. Besides price, the Thermos cup when closed is sealed. Can throw it in your hunting bag on its side and bring it to the blind and have hot coffee 3-4 hours after you leave the house.
For cold stuff, Yeti is fine. Have 2 Yeti tumblers with clear lids and 5 of the Thermos style. I never grab the Yeti for hot stuff.

Except I'm a middle aged redneck that isn't a fig. How about this? You drink what you want & I'll drink what I want. Light beer is tasteless to me, big f'n deal.

Couple things to add to this discussion:
1.) YETI charges the prices they do to ensure proper product placement. Just like everyone from Ruffles and Tostitos salesman to the Coke and Pepsi drivers fight it out for shelf space, YETI knew they wanted to be featured front and center right from the jump as a brand associated with sports and outdoors retailers.
They also knew they wanted to grow their brand extremely quickly and lacked the muscle to go duke it out against other established brands in that market segment.
Their solution was to come in at a ridiculous price point but-literally-split that profit with most retailers. So when you bought a $500 65 quart purple & Gold YETI ice chest, the Backpacker or whomever the retailer was cleared $250 gross profit.
With those kinds of margins available, they incentivized the retailers to do their dirty work and claim prime placement in their outlets. YETI stands popped up front and center and the retailers had their salespeople pushing the product for YETI without a lot of heavy-lifting form YETI's end at all.
That's why you saw them spring up overnight and that's why you saw the prices so high...and now that they've exploded using that model, that's why the prices are staying where they are.
Like it or lump it, the outdoors segment has a ton of folks that pay a premium for brands that are synonymous with quality. With all of those outlets pushing them and selling them so hard it was an easy push on their customers to build buzz, market share, and then customer/brand loyalty.
Laugh or scoff all you like, but they literally bought their way to where they are, and they're laughing all the way to the bank.
2.) They couldn't have done that without a quality product. Not only did they innovate from a marketing perspective, they were the first to the market with roto-molded products, and if they weren't first they were one of the first with soft-pack welded ice-chest pack type products, and the stainless steel stuff they weren't first but leveraged their brand to get top billing.
Face it. Rotomolded coolers were and are better than anything Coleman or Igloo had come up or out with before. They weren't a world's first (rotomolded coolers were pretty much considered an afterthought for years in Asia) but they were first stateside for sure.
But all of these products work and work well on some level. I have a soft pack ice chest that holds a six-pack from Cabelas. It's the best groomsman gift I've ever gotten in my entire life. But it doesn't hold a candle to my YETI Hopper.
With the stainless steel stuff, I have K2's, RTIC's, YETI's and KYSEK's that I've either bought or gotten at CCA events or fishing tournaments in goodie bags. They're all so close in terms of performance its not funny. But RTIC's design is sh!tty. Their bottom of their 30oz tumlber won't go into my cupholder in my truck when K2, YETI and KYSEK all do without a problem. The RTIC spilled over and fell out and then the top came off.
In short: Screw RTIC. I'm still bitter. LOL

Damn right. frickin' queers drinking their locally made beer that's stronger. I'll take my Russian or Belgian conglomerate beer made at a good 4%.

It's not even about the ABV, I just don't think the lighter beers taste as good. If some bro likes light beer good for him I guess...

Well that explains a lot, thanks. I always wandered what the deal was.
My cousin rolled up to a family gathering with his Yeti cooler in the back of the new suburban. It had a couple of apples, some milk, and yogurt in the back for the kid. Thing weighed a ton. "Just in case any bears attack on the way to the bbq, right?" He looked a little embarrassed.
I really don't care what people waste their money on, but I'm definitely going to laugh at them for it.
It's like the car commercials where everyone buying a Rav4 is some outdoor living, mountain biking, dirt road conquering badass. Most of these won't leave the pavement in their entire life, but they're selling a lifestyle. And most people are stupid and easy to convince to buy shite they don't need.

Except for my twice a year offshore fishing trips a Yeti (or similar) cooler is a waste.
I always run out of beer long before the ice melts in my Igloo.
And the Igloo is not nearly as heavy as the Yeti, and I dont worry about someone stealing it out of my truck.
But if you want one go get you one.
