Yet another reason LA will always lag behind

While the state government does it's fair share to screw things up, I truly believe this state's biggest problem is the lack of local goverments working together in a regional fashion.
LINK
So even though this is something that will greatly help public transportation in the region, Jefferson is mad because they aren't going to profit from it, and it might hurt ridership on their version of the line.
We really, really need a regional system.

The head of Jefferson Parish’s public transit system says she was kept in the dark about plans to run another New Orleans bus line into the suburban parish next year — a move that she says will hurt her system’s profits.

Tension between transit officials in neighboring parishes is nothing new. Past efforts to make the RTA more regional have failed because of disputes over revenue and cost sharing as far back as the authority’s creation in 1979.
Although the RTA originally was supposed to provide public transit in Orleans, Jefferson, St. Bernard and St. Tammany parishes, state law made parishes’ participation optional, and outside of Orleans Parish, it operates buses only in Kenner.
We really, really need a regional system.

Communication is the reason my state sucks?
I was always under the impression it was because of the multitude of corrupt politicians or their political pandering.

Louisiana will forever Louisiana on itself.
Nobody should expect it to change. Ever.

This has nothing to do with communication. This has to do with jefferson official upset at losing potential revenue, even if it makes more sense for RTA to have that line. That's part of corruption and pandering.

I think it will be more the fact that JP dosent want OP trash coming into the parish.

More reason to give control of Roads/Trans Systems to a 3rd party, like we do in DFW.
NTTA goes through at least 3 maybe 4 different counties. Haven't heard much fighting between counties over things like this.

that she is accustom to stealing.
Why would a gov't entity need to be making profit?

While I understand that sentiment, they are coming either way. I'm sure a significant number of the CNAs, orderlies, and other low level hospital staff are coming from OP to Ochsner.

Yes. Exactly.
Which is what the RTA was supposed to be... but the non-Orleans parishes decided not to play along.

See I feel like public transit, any monies "made" should be reinvested back into public transit, roads, etc. There shouldn't be any profits to give to governments to fund other wasteful crap.

Which is confusing because logic would say they should in some way. If x amount of miles of rail/road/whatever, then they should be compensated a percentage equal to that usage.

in these agreements it the profits should be appropriated to the maintenance of the roads these busses would use. RTA isnt building or maintaining these roadways, the city is. Well we are talking about NOLA The city should be.

You must not pay attention to real estate prices if you think that’s the way the trash flows.

Well I think NTTA takes the profits for themselves to provide all necessary updates, cleanliness, and motorist help on any of the roads they build.
So literally the counties don't worry about the biggest cost road systems in the metroplex minus US 75.
I think this route is also the best route, as it eliminates any backroom deals.

It's a bit different imo. They are taking away a major public responsibility and the costs that go with it.

quote:yea i admit i dont know the details of all of this. but any regional transportation authority, does "pay royalties to the regions it operates in. These royalties could be form of tax or profit sharing or even the reductions in responsibility of maintenance one public roadways. Maybe this is happening but i assumed it wasnt.

Probably doesn't want POS criminals from Orleans Parish catching the bus so they can rob nicer houses in Metairie.
