Sorry, but that's easily one of the 10 shittiest states in the Union.
I am sure this is based on your extensive travel of Michigan.
The Upper Peninsula might be one of the most beautiful places in the country.

I agree with Maine in the summer, like all places it depends a lot on the season. Love Maine.

Here is the criteria they used:
I'm going to reword them for clarity:
1. Historical significance
2. Scientific achievements
3. Culture
4. Notoriety
5. Landscape, nature, and aesthetics
Florida being #50 is the most fricking asinine thing I've ever read from a travel website. It seriously should be one of those moments that gets people fired and nearly bankrupts a company.

WTF? Maine? yes. cool lifestyle, but the other 3 are ridiculous.

I'm not saying Michigan should be number one but, it is a very nice place. The upper peninsula, traverse city, Macinaq Isle(or however you spell it) all are really nice places. Winters sucks there but they really put their summers to good use. Detriot is not some hell like most of you believe, sure it has its bad areas but its no different from any other major city. The Henry Ford Museum is hands down the best museum I have every been to.

Where is the journalistic integrity?
These two "authors" are mammaral protrusions on a male bovine.

Yahoo Travel writes some of the worst articles I've ever seen on the Internet.

Anything that has Florida at 50 should be taken with a bag of salt.

I can't say I agree, but I was surprised that the list was actually kinda funny and insightful at points. Not bad from Yahoo.
While I have no objection to putting FL #50, as it is filled with soulless individuals and lacks any sort of cohesive culture, the standards aren't applied evenly.
The only real objections I have are the bias for NJ, Michigan (which may deserve a most underrated title), Minnesota (ha) and Pennsylvania.
NJ, for its pastoral charms, is a fricking dump with some of the worst urban areas and governance in the country. It's a shithole by any standard.
Pennsylvania has kind of mountains and Pittsburgh. Philly is a dump, and the people are basically a New Jersey/WV hybrid, which is horrifying.
Michigan has UP, which is awesome. It also has a bunch of cities that have nothing but declining industry and Islamic radicals. No thanks.
Minnesota is filled with lovable idiots, but is somewhere few people would live or even think to visit.

Yea not sure why anyone is bothering discussing the merits of this list. We'd be far better off trying to create our own here.

Sounds like a spinoff thread...
