Exactly this. What’s improved by her revealing the info? His happiness? No. The marriage? No.

She spilled it for selfish reasons. She feels better; he feels worse.

Plot twist: He banged 13 different women over the same time span and took it to the grave with him.

Pretty screwed up to carry something like that for 70 years and then let it out. Either tell them immediately or go down with it to save them some pain

If she dies first she'll get a helluva appropriate epitaph on her headstone.

I'm conflicted about this. You're supposed to be able to forgive yourself regardless if the offended party has forgiven you but I don't think you can truly forgive yourself until that forgiveness is granted.

When you forgive yourself, you actually relinquish any power or control (even if only mental) that the other person has over you.

After all, the only person that you can truly control is yourself. Get right with yourself and the Lord. That's about all you can do. Anyone else who chooses to forgive you, consider that "lagniappe" and appreciate the willingness and kindness they show to you.

I'm not sure it is worth the pain you cause the loved one though to clean your conscience, you basically lied to them for over 50 years.

this is the bottom line. Her clean conscience is simply not worth the pain she has just caused him.
Pretty fricked up, actually.
